Why are Russian trolls spreading online hoaxes in the U.S.?

In St. Petersburg, a shadowy Russian organization called the Internet Research Agency hires trolls to spread propaganda and hoaxes online. Jeffrey Brown interviews Adrian Chen of The New York Times Magazine about what he’s discovered about the group

...And these trolls, this kind of work, from what I have gathered from talking to activists, it’s really to kind of pollute the Internet, to make it an unreliable source for people...

Troll hunter seems to be the profession of the future. Savchuk and Chen are the ones

Awesome...... a US propaganda piece warning about Russian propaganda.

Obviously Western propaganda against Russia and Putin started loosing its fight with the truth since it decided to litter the Internet with tons of information about "Russian Troll Factory" to distract people's attention from their own trolls. But the point is: the truth will find its way regardless...

By the way, I'd like to point out: there are three guys in a row whose first message on USMB was about "Russian Troll Factory". Yesterday and the day before yesterday Lisitsyn and Amigo posted "Russian Troll Factory" on USMB same day they joined it. And today Jack London did the same and Amigo apparently has posted it again. Do you guys work for the same company? How much per post?
