Yet some still question why Michigan needs an Emergency Financial Manager...

Public service unions are destroying this country. The states that battled them and won did the right thing and will come out ahead eventually.

The unions did not tell elected officials to avoid funding retirement benefits. It's the brilliance of our government at work.

yeah

But any fool could have figured it out, and Cloward-Piven did.

They destroy MI from the inside, as they planned for the country

No, but they did demand unsustainable pension and benefit arrangements that are bankrupting cities and counties. Officials agreed to it because the bill wouldn't come due until they were out of office. This is why public unions suck and need to be banned.

MI is going to be like Egypt.

They will point to the ruins of their society and go; "See how great we are?"
All the while ignoring the trash at their feet

Finally, Fascism for America!

Michigan shall lead the way!

You see, the National Socialist party is the People's party...

What an unbelievable power grab. Doesn't matter if the people elect their mayors, school boards, etc. A governor can simply throw them out and install a flunky. Why even have elections anymore? Just crown the governor already.

Just your basic cluster fuck there. The unions got in bed with the democrat politicians, and for decades together they screwed over everyone else. It's gonna end up in a court room; Obama may decide to intervene and bail 'em out short term, but eventually they're going under.

I agree, but as I posed to someone else in another thread, what is your solution? Detroit is in serious trouble. The city if literally crumbling to the ground and the local politicians refuse to make the choices necessary to fix it, so what should be done?

That's exactly what the Greek unions were saying back about the last prime minister who tried to reign them in (Mitsotakis). They were wrong too, but at least they had a historically recent fascist regime to reference.

Democracy has failed. First Michigan, then America, will see that we need a great leader to seize the reigns of the nation and lead us into a new age of prosperity, security, and love

Last year the city council and the state agreed to a Consent Agreement to stave off the need for an Emergency Financial Adviser. Apparently the city couldn't or wouldn't take the steps needed to even start fixing the problem so now they have to deal with their inaction (malfeasance?) by temporarily losing some control over the corrective measures.

The People fucked up. They should be grateful to the state for taking responsibility instead of letting them lapse into 3rd world shithole anarchy status. The consequences of fucking up consistently over years and years is that you don't get to make your own decisions anymore. Frankly we need more of that.

FDR laughed at the idea of public sector unions. Yet Reagan signed borderline criminal pay parity bills without requiring ANY parity in retirement benefits. That set the wild-eyed spending standard state and local morons followed down the drain.

Detroit has big problems, as do other state and local jurisdictions suffering from decades of similar wild-eyed spending binges since Reagan set the standard. The only hope Detroit has of getting something right going back thirty years is being a successful example of how to fix what ReagaNUT-grade government pensions and spending are doing to state and local governments across the nation.

What? Reagan fired air traffic controlers, busted that union up, now the left is saying he is the cause of cities and blue state budgets out of control with Union contracts?

It's a mantra. Whatever problem the US has today that can't be blamed on Bush is by default Reagan's.

No, the left isn't saying that. The evidence is.

Reagan was a a showman playing to a nation confused by Vietnam, Nixon and oil shortages. Ultimately he conned them into supporting policies that led directly to 2008's crash (very much like his spiritual heir, Junebug Bush, conned many of the same people a generation later into supporting policies that made the crash certain).

The FACT is Reagan TRIPLED the national debt and he did that by increasing government pay and benefits (buying into "pay parity" without even thinking about the costs of pensions was pretty stupid). Reagan was the biggest peacetime deficit spender after the civil war before Junebug Bush aped ReagaNUTics into crashing the global economy
