I don't think the state has any business executing ANYONE. I would even be against state mandated abortions.

The reality is, only 3% of rapists end up in prison. This guy probably will, but only because the case got so much attention.

A lot to unpack here.

First, we don't really fund our Child Welfare Agencies to the point where the CAN be effective. There are a LOT of people out there who have kids who never should have had kids, and this woman is one of them. The problem with anti-abortion fanatics like you are that you want EVEN more kids born to people who shouldn't be parents. It's counter-intuitive.

There aren't enough foster care families to go around to take the kids we have now. That's why DCFS has a bad habit of leaving kids in bad situations, and then get a shitload of deserved criticism when something bad happens. Except we assign hundreds of cases per case worker and then wonder why they don't follow up on them all.

The reality, this is the problem with having extreme poverty. This woman tolerated this man's behavior because he brought stability into her life. Shouldn't be that way, but it is.
