$6.00 a gallon for gas in Florida

Gas is high because obama wants it that way. The price of gas will affect the price of everything else. People that could easily afford to buy food, pay bills and rent won't be able to do that. This is an indication that the government needs to step in and "help". People who could afford to live on a food budget of $100.00 a week will find that the $100.00 only buys $50.00 worth of food. Now they need food banks, food pantries and food stamps to help them.
I wonder what it is the President doesn't understand about people not being able to drive across the country anymore to show their children the Grand Canyon (Arizona), Yosemite (California), Yellowstone and Old Faithful Geyser (Wyoming), Acadia (Maine), Big Bend (Texas), Crater Lake (Oregon), the Everglades (Florida), Rocky Mountain National Park (Colorado), Carlsbad Caverns (New Mexico), Wind Caves (South Dakota), Trail of Tears National Historic Trail (Tennessee), Hot Springs National Park (Arkansas), Cuyahoga Valley National Park (Ohio), Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail (Illinois) and the Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C.

He and his family have taken numerous vacations since he has been President. What about Mr. and Mrs. Average American who, with the extra $1500 a year they're paying in high gasoline prices, have to give up their vacation just to meet the burdensome demands placed on their budgets in the suspect grounds of austerity for everyone else except themselves in Washington, to whom America pays the big bucks so they can fly of anywhere, day or night, to go to a party fundraiser.

Doesn't the President know his demands place the onus directly onto every single American who buys gasoline to go somewhere? And if they have to drive one of those battery cars, they could get stuck in a hole somewhere and never get to see a National Park.

I think President Obama should rethink a few things, and take that onus off the American family.

That pie-in-the-sky trip to a national park is getting farther and farther away from the Americans who have traditionally been able to afford to access the National Parks as an educational benefit to their children.

And that high gasoline bit? It's decimated small businesses in the tourist trade everywhere.

America is caving in on itself with Obama's high ideals that throw a low, fast hardball directly at America's innocent children who deserve to see America's great National Parks.

And I'm angry about it.
what exactly do you expect the president to do about gas prices? force the oil companies to sell it at a cheaper rate? wave his magic wand over the US and make gas appear out of nowhere?

if you understand supply and demand you understand that gas is directly tied to the price of oil. oil is also a commodity which is sold on the open markets and available for speculation. the GOP touts the free market system as the best system in the world. well this is a result of the free market system. if demand outpaces supply, prices increase. which is what is currently happening.

now you may say that its because Obama is limiting drilling on the north american shelf. this again is not true at all. Domestic drilling and oil production is at its highest level in history. the problem is that oil once again is a commodity and its price is set on the open market.

if the president were to unilaterally fix gas prices, then you could actually call him a socialist or a communist. since this is actually a part of the socialist / communist ideology. when the government control, fixes, or alters an industry unilaterally, it is in essence the definition of socialism / communism. if this is what the GOP/TP/Conservative want, its extremely hypocritical.

Here's some more scary facts for you!

There is no incentive to lower the price. So the government must force them to. If they decided to raise it to $7.50 a gallon next week, are people going to stop buying gas? No. You would have some reduction, in non-work driving, but people still have to fill their tanks. There is still enough built-in demand, worldwide, that they would still make billions in profit.

If obama wants to lower gas prices he could make a request to congress that they lift the tax on fuel, they they just gave Americans this year. They will not do that because they are greedy.
You don't discuss things honestly, so I'm no longer interested in your opinion.

Project much? But when you can't win a debate you say the other person is dishonest, or you just run away.

where does he offset the tax cut you just proposed in the budget? if you dont offset it, then you increase the debt and deficit.

Those family vacations would be a starter. Congress takes a pay cut would be another.

so you want him to pay for it out of his own pocket?

idiot

You fucking better believe I want him to pay for his own damn families way. How much do you think the American tax payer has forked out for all those trips, and catering a special chief into the white house cost?

Government-controlled price fixing seems just a tad heavy-handed to me.
But how can the market force any business to drop their price?

You're a dumbass. Truly.

Ahhhh, the unsubstantive personal attack. The last refuge of the liberal.

Ummmm.......

Can't really substantiate the bolded claim, either

:eusa_whistle:

The main reason the gas prices shot up so quickly is not because of Obama, it's because of the speculators that buy oil and gas futures, and they're projecting that the cost of fuel is going to go up.

Pretty much the same thing that happened under Jr. back in 2008.

The thing I'm wanting to know is do you think the oil companies are going to post record profits again this quarter, like they did back in 2008?

"According to GasBuddy.com, motorists are shelling out $5.89 for a gallon of regular gas at a Shell station in Lake Buena Vista, topping out at $5.99 a gallon for premium. It doesn’t get better at a Suncoast Energy station in Orlando, where drivers are paying $5.79 for a gallon of regular.""

It's called the high season at Disney World.

Yup. It's also called the free market. The Republicans need to sit down and shut up on this one. They slam the tabletop with their pudgy little fists and demand deregulation....Well, enjoy! And stop complaining.

The recent gas federal tax had nothing to do with it?

The recent federal tax had nothing to do with the rise in gas prices did it?

If the OWS crowd is still looking for a turn-around the price of Gas via the oil industry ought to fit the bill rather nicely ... and call on the Tea Party to make it a double header.

why would gas be more expensive in Tampa verses Ocala? looks like price GOUGING to me....

Because there's a MUCH higher demand in Tampa (due to a MUCH larger population). Tampa's the 3rd largest metro area in the southeast (outside of Miami and Atlanta)-it's going to naturally have more expensive gas than Ocala. Every metro area is going to have more expensive gas prices than rural areas-just the way it is.

edit: and I'm in both Ocala and Tampa often, and there prices are usually the same give or take 4-5 cents either way.

I see just the opposite, James.

I'm in Sebring and any time we have to go to Tampa gas is about 20 cents cheaper.
There's more competition

I'm in Tampa, and I was actually in Ocala today and gas was at $3.71.. The price at the gas station right up the road from me in Tampa is at $3.69. So Ocala was higher today-but by 2 cents. Granted these were the only gas station prices I paid attention, so to be fair: I have no idea if they're at the upper or low end for each area. The prices are usually around the same.

To be honest I haven't really been to Sebring (I've only driven through the area), so I believe you. While there may be more competition-there's also more demand. However as to my other posts in this thread, I think we both can agree that to say gas is $6 in Florida isn't accurate at all. And that prices in tourists areas (such as Orlando). It's why prices near the beaches are higher than just 20 mins or so more inland.

That's what happens when there's no regulations in place to control price gouging, profiteering and/or otherwise screwing a captured market, like those who are vacationing in central Florida in February.

I just want the TEa Baggers to recognize that this is what they are fighting for.....ANd to STFU.

Yes, the price of gasoline reached historic levels, rising above $4/gallon during Bush’s second term, but that wasn’t due to a lack of trying to increase domestic supply. U.S. domestic supply is but one factor in the global price of oil, and thus gas prices. But when a president purposefully chooses to decrease our domestic supply by 13%, with hopes of driving that supply even lower, and objects to U.S.-Canadian pipelines and new forms of exploration, discovery and friendly importation, the price consequences are real, and should be scrutinized.
