Laws define illegal behavior and the punishment if you engage in them...they cannot stop the action if the individual doesnt' care about the consequence...that is why all of your gun control laws fail to stop criminals, but they do disarm normal, law abiding people.

The key is to make the punishment for actual crimes so costly that they stop the behavior for all but the dumbest criminals....Japan did this with their Yakuza....Japanese citizens are law abiding and the police state there keeps them in line...the ones that didn't stay in line were the Yakuza...who would use guns and grenades when they needed to kill other Yakuza......despite Japanese gun control laws.

The Yakuza members thought that if they were arrested for gun charges, a few years in jail would toughen them and give them credibility...and when they got out they got a bump in their status and jobs in the organization...

How did Japan deal with this? They increased the jail sentences to 30 years for gun charges and levied massive fines on the Yakuza bosses for the gun activities of their minions....

Yakuza members said a few years in prison was doable.....but 30 years was a life sentence so now they don't want to use guns unless they absolutely have to...

That is what laws are supposed to do.....

Normal, law abiding people are not the ones shooting people here in the U.S. and in Britain...if they have guns the crime rate will not go up...but you guys want to punish them...and still not stop actual criminals.
