I have mixed feelings about unions, but with the GOP in charge workers need something. At will employment, and no more prevailing wage are cutting wages and well one can get fired for just looking the wrong way at the boss.

Actor John Goodman has joined unions opposing Missouri’s right-to-work laws and in a new ad calls workers greedy for opposing forced union membership.

So wanting to have the freedom to make your won choices instead of being FORCED to join groups that take part of your pay to do whatever they want with it - like using workers' money to financially support political candidates the workers oppose - is being 'greedy'?!

The companies they worked for hadn`t upgraded their plants in several decades and that`s why they were unable to compete. Old equipment takes twice as many employees to operate than the plants that took advantage of modern technology. We lost 2/3 of the jobs where I worked and it was done over a 3 decade period. Nobody was thrown out of work because the slimming down came gradually. I accepted a 40K package with pension and medical benefits and retired from there in 2006 at the age of 53. I`ve been working seasonally for 12 years at a non profit institution. Pension, SS and a small paycheck for 7 months of the year makes life good for this former union member. The $40 or so a month I paid in union dues was money well spent.

But not better than the next guy on the line, regardless of your work performance.

everyone had about the same pay and benefits....regardless of your work performance....which was something many employees did not like....
