Well, Mary, of Peter, Paul, and Mary is gone. A wonderful voice now still.

And Pete Seeger's 90th Birthday Party was on OPB. What a wonderful man, a national treasure of this nation.

One realizes one's age when the people whose music you love, whom you regarded as peers, are all dying of age related diseases. How hard to realize that only a bit more than a hundred years ago, once dead, their voices would have been lost.

I think "national treasure" is overdoing it a bit, huh? They were folk singers that had 2 hit songs in the 60s and one was Puff the Magic Dragon, the other a John Denver song. Only so much "treasure" in that.

Gunny, reread the post with care. The national treasure referance was to Pete Seeger. As far as "hits" go, that is for adolescents. The many songs that PP&M did very well will outlive by far the "hits" so beloved by the 2 inch deep intellect crowd.

And let's not forget Rush Limbaugh. George W. Bush said he was a National Treasure.
