Al-Qaeda Stronger Than Ever After 5 Years Of Obama’s Policies

How the Arab Spring Unleashed Al Qaeda

Open up a national newspaper and flip to the stories about the Middle East. The daily toll of bombings and shootings, starving refugees and demolished cities have little resemblance to the cheerful stories about the transformation of the Middle East that were running during the boom days of the Arab Spring.

There isn’t much mention of the Arab Spring anymore. The same media outlets that were predicting that the Middle East was about to turn into Europe have fallen silent. They are eager to forget their own lies.

But it was the Arab Spring that unleashed this horror. The Arab Spring was not an outburst of popular democratic sentiment. It was a power struggle of a clearly sectarian nature. It was the rise of Sunni Islam under the black and white Salafist flags.

Obama and his people favored takeovers by “moderate” Salafi groups that appeared to accept Western ideas such as democracy and modernization. The “moderate” Salafis however worked closely with their “immoderate” Salafi cousins playing a game of Good Salafi and Bad Salafi with America.

The “moderate” Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt opened the door for Al Qaeda in the Sinai. Its Syrian branch, along with other “moderate” Salafist militias in the Free Syrian Army, fought alongside the Al-Nusra Front which was then Al Qaeda in Syria.

The takeovers led to civil war in Egypt and Syria and escalated a sectarian regional conflict between Sunnis and Shiites. The biggest beneficiary of the Arab Spring was Al Qaeda in Iraq.

I think the Obama administration knew what was coming all along. The Muslim Brotherhood wasn't exactly secret about their mission and many people predicted this. I don't think Obama is so naïve that he didn't know the MB was poised to take over Egypt and keep going. He helped them.

Andrew McCarthy was the Federal prosecutor in the first WTC bombing.

He says:

"This seems to me as meaningful a distinction as whether former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a notorious Muslim Brotherhood sympathizer, had some formal understanding with the group or was “merely” a champion of Islamic supremacists who happened to be in charge of shaping American foreign policy. "

Well....here's a 'coincidence'.....

"....a researcher who has documented numerous ties between Hillary Clinton’s top aide and the global Islamic supremacist movement has found another connection.

Huma Abedin, Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, who is said to advise the secretary of state on Middle East policy, was a member of the executive board of the Muslim Student Association, according to an archived Web page discovered by researcher Walid Shoebat.

....Abedin worked for an organization founded by her family that is effectively at the forefront of a grand Saudi plan to mobilize U.S. Muslim minorities to transform America into a strict Wahhabi-style Islamic state, according to an Arabic-language manifesto issued by the Saudi monarchy."

Obama is still cleaning up after Bush/Cheney.

You have Al-Qaeda affiliated groups in Libya in the Syrian civil war the hard line but pro western Mubarak tossed under the Bus for the radical Muslin Brotherhood in Egypt who in turn got ousted by a military coup Iran has pretty much told the West to F-OFF and it looks like were getting ready to pull all our military assets out of Afghanistan the results of which will likely be the same as were now seeing in Iraq. These messes and other's brought to you courtesy of President Obama not Bush/Cheney.

All the results of the blunder of the Bush Invasion and occupation of Iraq. Instead of keeping the pressure on al Qaeda after Torra Borra. The Bush Administration began to ignore them and put nearly all the resources into the Iraq debacle. He should have listened to his fathers reasons for not invading Iraq after kicking them out of Kuwait.

The invasion of Iraq did not have jack shit do with what happened in Libya, Syria, or Egypt nor do I see how it made Iran any less agreeable than they already were and it sure has nothing to do with or possible troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. I know it's instinct for the left not to hold Obama responsible for anything on his watch but come on this is well beyond sad now.

Ignoring the escaping al Qaeda and plunging Iraq into a civil war that allowed al Qaeda to set up camp and recruiting shops. Sure it didn't, sure........

A red herring nevertheless.

That folks who work with or have as friends Muslims does not make them agents of the Brotherhood.

That is saying that Jindall or Rove are agents of the party of stupid far right reactonary TPM.

Al-Qaeda had been pretty much driven out of Iraq by the surge they didn't start being a force again till all the U.S.troops were pulled out they became a force in Libya, and Syria, and Egypt to a lesser degree because of the so called Arab spring and Obamas hands off approach to it which his supporters hailed as a great success now that it has become one giant clusterfuck you want to go back to blame Bush sad very sad.

Turkey’s Crackdown On Arms Shipments To Syria Could Help Al Qaeda And Harm Moderate Rebels

Turkey’s embattled government has been accused of suspected weapons shipments to Syria—but tighter border controls could end up harming moderate rebels and helping jihadists.

ISTANBUL—Al-Qaeda could emerge as the unlikely winner as supplies for more moderate rebels crossing the long border from Turkey into war-torn Syria come under increased scrutiny.

Several arms shipments from Turkey to rebel groups in Syria have been stopped in recent months. In one case, 1,200 Turkish-made mortar shells were discovered inside a Syria-bound truck in November. As fighting between al-Qaeda linked groups and other rebel factions in Syria intensifies, opposition politicians in Ankara are accusing the government of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of sending arms into the war zone, a charge that the government denies.

But an incident on January 1 challenged that denial and put a new spotlight on cross-border supplies from Turkey into Syria. The publicity could make further arms shipments for moderate rebel groups more difficult, making al-Qaeda stronger in the process, analysts say.

What does "connection" mean? She either is guilty of treasonous acts or she isn't. I'm indirectly connected to every mass-murderer who ever lived throughout history.

?????

Clinton fucked up big time with Al Qaeda. He was too involved in trying to cover up the Lewinsky affair and the Paula Jones civil suit.

Bush fucked up....then did some good things to hurt Al Qaeda....then fucked up again.

Obama has done some good things to hurt Al Qaeda....but his foreign policy in the Middle East has been a disaster and Al Qaeda is now stronger than it has ever been.

That is the honest non-partisan read of the situation.

Always feel free to use whatever source you want - people who don't like it can get over it.

Arguing a "source" and whether or not it is valid, does nothing but unravel a debate. We could argue that ANY source is unacceptable, but the argument remains untouched.

I have found that even sources I do not like are often right about certain things - for example FOX actually blew the lid off the Tayvon Martin media coup against Zimmerman by bringing forward a witness that eventually helped to exonerate him.

People who pic at sources endlessly, have no interest in truth.

Well, if you allege that Al Qaeda is stronger now than as of 2008, and if you're alleging that's because of Obama administration policies,

then you should be able to tell us, in detail, what were the better policies that the Obama administration should have pursued in the last five years that would have left Al Qaeda weaker than you allege.

It is? How about telling us exactly why Obama's foreign policy in the ME has been a disaster. Be specific.

Well, that's one way of looking at it ... another is that we always did the best we could with the information available.

Obama actually was the most successful - by far, but he learned from prior administrations.

Judging the work of any president should always be tempered with partisan-free glasses, unfortunately, it is next to near impossible to ever come across it.

We're all partisan...it is part of being human. 911 happened under Bush's watch. He bears a lot of the responsibility. Clinton has a lot of responsibility....probably more than anyone. Obama has probably done more to hurt Al Qaeda than Bush or Clinton, but as you said, he had the work of the two prior administrations to help guide him.

There is an excellent book called Ghost War that won a Purlitzer Prize. It describes the rise of Al Qaeda and what Clinton and Bush did and also didn't do the stop the threat. The CIA fucked up big time. Clinton was way too absorbed in his various scandals, and Bush was largely clueless prior to 911.

No. Al Qaeda is responsible for 9-11. It is pointless to try and lay blame on any administration for a random act of terror. There is just too much opportunity. The idea that we can ever be 100% safe from terrorists is retarded.

Now...the memo about Bin Laden preparing to strike using airplanes was a but of a hint....but that does not make Bush responsible for it. Shit like that happens. It is, in the end, unstoppable.

The problem we had was with the response. And for that.....you simply cannot avoid laying blame on Bush. We absolutely fucked up the response.

This President is busy trying to repair the damage done. Period.

Clinton's lack of response was a huge factor. You simply cannot avoid laying blame on Clinton. To say otherwise is foolish. The others have responsibility as well.

Nobody gets the blame when one of hundreds of attempts on the part of crazy people to inflict damage succeeds. You cannot stop committed terrorists from getting a "win" every now and then.

This topic sort of fits with the other discussion we are having on government transparency. When it comes to matters of national security.....we don't have the luxury of knowing what is going down......for obvious reasons.

You want to blame Clinton for 9-11. For some reason......
