The people I know in Alabama all live in plush gated communities with great jobs. Great recreational activities such as fishing, hunting, and golfing. I love it there.

You can find poverty in any state, if you look for it. Bit the best way to bring those people out of poverty is to have good conservative leaders, instead of Democrats who believe that entitlements are the only way out of poverty. Personal wealth can only be created in a pro-business, pro-growth atmosphere where the government doesn't tax and regulate businesses out of existence.

Victoria, BC pumps it's raw, untreated sewage into the ocean. Does that mean they are too poor to do otherwise? Alabama has pockets of poverty, but also has affluent areas, even rural ones. Appalachia is poorer, no?

I have a hard time believing Alabama is more poor than any other place in the US, much less the "developed world." I'd rather live in rural Alabama than rural Romania for sure!
