Almost half of new electricity is clean and green

It's a perfect example of propaganda. The statement is true and factual but it is cleverly worded. Here it is again, try to figure out what's wrong with the statement " Almost half of new electricity generation is now clean and green". That's right, it talks about NEW electrical energy. It makes no claim about how much "clean and green" electricity generation adds to the grid. The clever wording leads you to assume that half of the electricity generated is renewable and that's what they want you to believe. The dirty little secret is that unsightly expensive solar junk and windmills still add little to the grid. It's all smoke and mirrors and we still rely on 90% old fossil fuel, nuclear energy or hydroelectric.

So true, more proof of your statement being factual is how they lied about the World's Largest Solar plant being operational just because they had a dedication event planned with Obama's Energy Secretary, Moniz.

There isn't any propaganda in the statement. It is a statement of fact. That you cannot read with clarity of thought is your problem. It isn't 'clever' wording: it is straightforward wording. As well, windmills are far from unsightly.

Solar windmills dotting a hillside are quite impressive; I've driven past many in various parts of the world. Solar energy is the most intelligent way to generate power.

Its not a fact, its a press release about a United Nations report that nobody seems willing to quote.

Not quoting the source is the first red flag that an "article" is biased political propaganda.

Almost half of new electricity is now clean and green - environment - 07 April 2014 - New Scientist

That's a lot of clean power. Almost half of new electricity generation is now renewable, and the costs of wind and solar power are falling sharply. It "should give governments confidence to forge a robust climate agreement" next year, says Achim Steiner, director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Still have a long way to go, though.

Now, orogenicman dares ridicule me and refuses to followup and provide some facts when I question this OP.

orogenicman states its from newscientist.com like because the word "scientist" is suppose to be the word of fact. Well it does not take a Scientist to recognize that an article with broken links means that these so called "scientist" are not scientific at all, Quality Control, Quality Assurance is ignored in the article yet I am to "Believe" because orogenicman has quoted "scientists".

So orogenicman, how about supporting your opinion with a fact, not some crappy website that does not realize their own link is broke.

Solar Power Continues Explosive Growth

Solar Power Continues Explosive Growth

The use of solar power as an alternative energy source is growing at an explosive rate, according to recently released industry reports. In the US, the growth was recorded at more that 40 percent from the previous year, with the total energy generated, exceeding 12,000 mw, while global capacity of energy from photovoltaics exceeds 100 gigawatts. The explosive growth rates, make solar power the fastest growing form of alternate energy, moving it ahead of other energy sources such as wind, nuclear, coal and gas.

The figures complied by the Industry Association, and GTM Research indicates that solar may have become a viable alternate that can be adopted for everyday use. There is now enough capacity in the US to power almost 2.5 million homes, with there is huge potential for the addition of even more capacity, as a tipping point has been reached. The president of the Solar Energy Industry Energy Association, Rhone Resch says that in the past 18 months, more solar installations were completed, that there were in the previous three decades.

The majority of the installations were large projects, while 17 percent were installed in residences. California leads the country, with more than 50 percent of all the new capacity, succeeded by Arizona, and North Carolina, and together the three states, with New Jersey and Massachusetts account for more than 80 percent of all the new capacity. The majority of installations in the Southwest made use of large mirrors known as heliostats that redirected the energy from the sun to a central generating station.

I call bullshit, quote the source not heresy, the article vaguely refers to another article somewhere else, I could make my own website filled with bullshit and I would of done as much as you.

the other old crock post is that of the lobbying group of gwec

What turns it into propaganda is the abuse of the numbers quoted.. They are quoting installed CAPACITIES.. So the actual power produced is about 1/3 of those numbers for solar and wind.. A 100MW nuclear plant can generate 90MW most all the time (except for refueling and maintenance).. A 100MW wind farm AT BEST -- averages 30MW in a very spotty, unreliable manner (NOT including maintenance and repair)..

Solar is intelligient? A power source that works for 6 hours a day in SOME regions? And needs a full fossil fuel or nuclear plant to stand behind it on rainy or cloudy days?

How beautiful are those "solar windmills" when they are chopping the local eagle population to bits or are placed too close to homes and they start sounding like an airport?

I found the report HERE...

Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment 2014 | FS UNEP Centre

According to Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment 2014 – produced by the Frankfurt School-UNEP Collaborating Centre for Climate & Sustainable Energy Finance, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Bloomberg New Energy Finance — the investment drop of $US35.1 billion was partly due to the falling cost of solar photovoltaic systems. The other main cause was policy uncertainty in many countries, an issue that also depressed investment in fossil fuel generation in 2013. Download the entire Report here.

It wasn't Oroman's fault.. The only reason I followed it back was to clarify the HuffPo comment about this being a JOINT UN and BLOOMBERG FINANCE report.. And in the UN report --- it CREDITS Bloomberg as a co-author.. Evidently the UN was DESPERATELY trying to hype it's IPCC economic impact report release, so they hired Bloomberg to help them put lipstick on the renewable pig for the event..

Cant propose massive public investment in GW mitigation, if you have NO SOLUTIONS .... Or CAN YOU ????

BTW: The link to the report only includes the first 15 pages of 84.. The rest is probably proprietary Bloomberg data available by payment only. Or provided to key public policy figures.....

When the price of "green" electricity gets to where it needs to be for non-subsidized use then there'll be much less need. First because people will no longer be able to afford to buy it. Second because clever enough people will have bought their own generators. Some would run on "clean" natural gas but others? Diesel or gasoline.

LOL. Solar is cost effective now for a household on a five year basis in areas where the electricity more expensive.

Iowa (27.4%)
South Dakota (26.0%)
Kansas (19.4%)
Idaho (16.2%)
Minnesota (15.7%)

That is the percentage of energy in those states that wind produced in 2013.

That is in California where we initiated cap/trade or ab32, so the government regulates the energy industry to death, subsidies solar and wind and Old Rock acts as if there is a free market.

Yep the cost the same through the dictates of a tyrannical government.

FACT = global investment in renewables DOWN 14% >>>

Been trending that way since 2008!!! All the makey-uppey statistics about "growth in solar and wind" are just that!! On the world market, nobody is caring except the profit takers who are making big-ass bucks off this ruse from the AGW climate fascists, many of whom really think that private investment in renewables has to do with interest in saving the environment, which is akin to an adult believing the Easter Bunny will be hopping around outside in a couple of weeks. Why is investment in renewables drying up? Same concept as any innovative product(s) that come out of the gate hot and then fizzle out altogether. Shrewd investors are astute and identifying suckers in the market.......see government investment and jump on board. Hey.......there was a time a few years back that The Turbonator was selling like hotcakes until the word got out that it was bullshit. These AGW fascists who really think that renewables are going outside fringe energy are the same suckers who would have invested huge sums of $$ on the Turbonator.

From REALCLEAR today......Merkels government moved yesterday to curb the growth of green energy >>>

UPDATE 2-Germany ushers in renewable energy reform | Reuters

The people are sick and tired of getting hosed with mega expensive electricity costs!!!:D:D Heavy industry needs affordable power to remain competitive on the world market.......something the AGW idiots don't understand.

But it sure does lead to lots of LOSING!!!:D:D:fu::fu::fu::fu::fu::fu::fu:
