America First = America Last

America First is Trump's economic policy
Every country looks out for their own best interests and everyone wins

Economic competition does not work like that. Teaming and competing as a group gets you more economic "wins" than looking out for your best interests

Think of a Basketball Team.
If every player looks out for himself and tries to score as many points as they can, you have a bunch of players ball hogging and gunning for shots

Winning Basketball Teams rely on teamwork and doing what is best for the team. Spread the ball around and look for the open man

Trump's economic policies leave the US isolated and left out of economic opportunities

Can you share some examples of what you are talking about ?
Leaving the TPP

Did congress ever approve the TPP ?

Trade is what you want, but you are calling it cooperation. Let me give you an example of that Cooperation.

Alfa Romeo and Nissan decided to cooperate on a car. It seemed like a wonderful idea when we the public first heard about this joint effort. Styling by the Italians would insure the car was beautiful to behold, and a joy to drive. Having the reliability of the Japanese managing the mechanical aspects would mean the car was going to be great.

Unfortunately for both companies, they went the other way. It was styled by the Japanese, and the mechanicals were from Alfa, which meant it was another in the inexhaustible line of boxy hatchbacks that would be unreliable to boot.

Yes, we got an unreliable ugly car. The reason that similar models sold well was because they were reliable. Cars made by Alfa of course, were only slightly more reliable than a pensioners erection.

The car was a financial disaster. And why wouldn’t it be? It took the weakest aspects of both car makers and combined them into one terrible car. Alfa’s were beautiful, but broke down a great deal.

Sometimes these things work out. Like when Volkswagen bought Lamborghini. The Italians did the styling, and the mechanical components were handled by the Germans. Win win. Beautiful car that runs well.

That is cooperation, and it is done by companies, or people, not nations. Today I can go downtown and buy an Alfa sports car. It is really a Mazda MX-5, but it has been styled a bit by the Italians. Avoid the one with the Alfa motor if you want to get somewhere.

But what you are pushing is trade. Trade is not cooperation, it is competition. As I’ve said before, trade between essentially equal economies is awesome. We’re all in favor of that. It provides better products for the people. Trade between inequal economies, not so great.

China provides us with lots of cheap products. They even send us their resources for almost nothing. I don't see a problem.

Donnie Dealmaker is clueless about what it takes to make a deal

Obama's self-ankle grabbing was surely no example of "economic cooperation". Just a clear invite to take advantage.

The Great Obama was able to negotiate with other nations because he was respected and trusted

Donnie Dealmaker has been more interested in destroying Obama's legacy than in doing what is best for our country

The massive trade surpluses that Japan, South Korea, China have had with US over the last several decades have not been good for US.

It's been good for THEM, at our expense.

No, we are not getting fucked

We are missing out on the opportunity to market our goods under favorable conditions

They will not give US favorable conditions. And why should they?

They want to get massive trade surpluses so that they have citizens with more and better and higher paying jobs, and more profits for their corporations and more tax revenue for their governments.

That this means fewer jobs and less tax revenues for communities in the US, they could not care less about.

What goods? More than 70,000 manufacturers have moved their plants to Mexico. You mean we might be missing out on the chance to market Mexican goods under favorable conditions?

MSNBC's Ed Schultz: Trade deals closed 50,000 factories

Now, Politifact claims that the recession had a lot more to do with it than the Trade Deals, but they don’t deny that tens of thousands of factories moved. Adios. So what trade goods are we missing out on the chance to export? Are you going to sell the F-35 to China? Oh, maybe we can sell them the M-1 Abrams, but they probably don’t want it since they already have a better tank.

In theory you might be right, but in practice, you’re wrong. That’s the truth you are missing. No plan survives implementation intact.

China has sold us lots of great products for unbelievably cheap prices. You don't like a good deal? And all the while they have polluted up their country so it is a cesspool. Yeah I think we are doing pretty good.

China is slowing.
China factory output slows as govt cracks down on pollution

A good deal for the individual at the price of the American worker being fucked?

No, I don't like that deal.

There is no better option. Tariffs would force us all to pay more and cost more jobs as our exports decrease.

Tariffs led to our building factories in Europe to sell to European customers. They built factories here to get around the tariffs. Fords and GM vehicles are built in Australia. No Tariffs for that. BMW, Volkswagen, Toyota’s, Nissan, and many more are built here. Tariffs increase manufacturing if history is any indication.
