An image that will haunt him to the grave.

Is this an act of desperation or just an appeal to the low informations. Or both ?
Rarely have we seen such a shameless and degrading display. Why did he do it ?

You may think that's a case of shameless, distasteful, odious pandering to gullible goofs, but really, he did it because it's correctly calculated, and it works with his "base".

You may think it will haunt him. It won't, because those who see through that bullshit he doesn't care about. Those who don't you see on here in fits of rage over your objections to the Dear Leader's mindlessness.
I think they lack the understanding to make an informed opinion. He is obviously appealing to an ignorant underclass.

I don’t think he is appealing to ignorant underclass, otherwise you’d be all in on it.

You have a president literally wrapping himself up in the flag and announcing that he is going to set the bar on free speech. When will any of this concern you ?

The goal is to get universities to protect the free speech of conservatives, not hamper the free speech of liberals or even the schools.

Conservative speakers have been heckled mercilessly and hounded right off the campus to where they can't even give the speech they were invited to give. On one or two occasions the schools themselves cancelled conservative speaker appearances because of concerns about safety.

Trump is not the bad guy here and this measure is specifically due to the harassment conservative students and speakers receive on campuses.
But trump is the last person to judge what is acceptable free speech. There are examples of his idiocy too many to list.

I've already explained this. He's not saying what is acceptable free speech, he's only asking the schools to do a better job of protecting free speech, particularly that of conservatives.
But he is linking it to research funding. The two are not linked unless as part of a threat.

Schools that take government money need to beaware of the consequences. It it is a private school with no federal funding, they are a private enterprise however the colleges that take federal funds, then they are a government entity and need to follow the First Amendment. Pretty simple, and very correct.
Freedom of speech should not be subject to the approval of the President. Trump is looking to punish Colleges who he does not approve of. It is astonishing that you cannot see the problem with that.

He has an obligation to uphold free speech, not approve of what is said. University have an obligation to allow free speech on campus, not suppress it and if it means taking away federal funding, then so be it. States, cities, colleges, have had federal funding threatened many times for decades for not complying with federal laws, this is no different.

Nobody has an obligation to provide a platform for anybody.

They are federally funded government institutions, if they don’t want to provide a platform, then they don’t, they also don’t get federal funds either, problem solved.

At the current Presidents discretion apparently.

Every President uses discretion. Obama threatened to pull federal funds from North Carolina schools for not allowing transgenders to use either restroom. Presidents have threatened to withhold federal funding for not enforcing national speed limits, they use it all the time, you oppose Trump so you are against him using this tactic, I bet you said nothing about Obama using the same tactic, the only difference to you is who you like and dislike. I have no issue with Trump note did I have an issue with Obama when it came to withholding federal money. I myself believe the states should fund their own education system and the feds stayout.

Trump: Colleges that don't support 'free speech' will lose federal funding

President Trump announced Sunday that colleges and universities will get federal research funding only if they meet certain "free speech" standards.

That is according to the Washington Post.

Trump made the point at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland. He said he will soon sign an executive order making this official.

He truly cannot see the irony in what he is saying.
If you take government funds, you become an entity of the government and that brings the Constitution into play. That means that any University that accepts federal or state dollars are subject to enforcement of the Bill of Rights.

It is obvious you are not an American.

This, coming from the guy who's nation has some of the oppressive speech laws in the western world

Of course it's a threat. Federal research funding is the only link between schools and the government so...

We understand that in England you can be arrested for speaking your mind, therefore we don't expect you to understand this whole Free Speech thing.
Why anyone would oppose free speech on a college campus is beyond me but you seem to.

I just can't wait to see the left try and rationalize being opposed to free speech.
Now show me where your logic has a place with corporations and companies which do not allow free speech...

I don't see what my comment has to do with corporations...I'm just saying, since the left opposes everything Trump says and does then they're going to have to oppose this free speech thing and it will not be a good look for them in the upcoming elections.
