Am from a proud cop-family of some note (ancestor's Pat Garett, grandfather a graduate of the FBI Academy and lifelong officer retiring as a Chief of Police.) Why I didn't become one myself, I've had this position ever since I was a kid. My 'Central American death squad' thing wouldn't reflect well. But it does make me laugh when people call me a liberal. Uh ya.

Trials cost money, encourage copycat crimes glorifying the offenders (can't watch an hour of news this week without seeing Arias or go a week without some mention of Manson - execute them. Shoulda done that a long time ago) and basically make a mockery out of law enforcement calling them into question instead of the offenders.

When police catch violent offenders on camera (why I support dash and badge cams) the whole justice procedure is redundant. Without fear of punishment there is no law and order. And currently criminals don't fear arrest like they used to.

So you are saying that 99.8% to 99.9992% of the time, your Second Amendment Purist WHIPS OUT HIS GUN and yet is able to face down his attacker by force of will without having to shoot him dead.

Given the murder fantasies we see here by Gun Enthusiasts every day, the folks who idolize Zimmerman because he was "living the dream", I really find this hard to believe.

For all of the threatre and posturing on these threads, it really all comes down to one blazingly simple fact that every can agree on.

Ten times as many people (per capita) die of gun shot wounds in the US than in any other developed nation.

That is where these discussions begin and end, and until the pro-gun lobby start to accept that only the prevalence of guns in society can entirely explain this fact, the discussions really are of very little merit.
