Another eurotrash zoo in denmark threatening to kill another giraffe

why can't they be just neutered if not deemed suitable for breeding?

on a side note - the way the zoo operates is the exact example of the government regulated life - if you are considered unsuitable - you are being eliminated.

it is post Orwellian.

I agree, this is nonsense. In this case the Zoo simply states they no longer have room since they are getting a female and do not want the 2 males to fight. It's sickening to me.

So its fine to euthanized millions of stray dogs & cats every year. It is fine to slaughter millions of head of livestock. But kill 2 giraffes (in a humane way) and suddenly it is all horrors?

WTH? They have only so much room for the giraffes. If they kept 2 males they would be fighting all the time. This way none of the animals is in pain. And I am quite sure the way they put the giraffe down is far less painful than being hunted and killed by a lion.

Find some real reason to be indignant.

Humane?

did you read how it actually happened and what added to the outrage?

zoo takes animals from their natural habitat by force.it is supposed to preserve animals and help them - so your comparison with stray dogs and others does not apply, as if they do not have space for the animal - they should not get one. Period.

Funny, but some of those whining about this are the first ones to condemn the "tree huggers" when they try to actually preserve the habitats.

Yes, the giraffe was put down with a bolt-gun. A head shot is the most humane method of putting an animal down, since the brain is destroyed before paid can be registered. They also did it that way so that the giraffe's flesh could be fed to it's natural predators.

The REASON there are breeding programs in zoos is because of the lack of habitat and the destruction of so many species in the wild. How about spending some energy stopping that instead of trying to make a valid breeding program sound bad by crying about it like a little girl who just saw Bambi's mother killed by the hunter.

Oh, and if you had read the article you would have seen that they have two males. They are trying to help the species by breeding them. That won't happen with two males.

so they should not get a female. simple. they do not need to breed.

how about if some zoo does not have resources to take care of 3 giraffes, they just keep the 2 they have and stop being greedy - oh, they want to breed, they want to have little giraffes ( and make more money on it).

if they are such "tree huggers" - stick to the initial task and forget about money. even if it is hard.

And if a male giraffe is born because of the breeding, yet another giraffe will be killed. It's nothing but pure stupidity!

Yes, they have two males and wish to procure a female to breed, all the while knowing they DONT have room for additional giraffes. What happens when another male is born of the union between the new female? He will be killed for the same reasons the last two were killed, no room.

The zoo argued that if Marius was in the wild, he may have ended up in the clutches of a lion as he was after officials killed the giraffe and fed him to the lions. "However, he was living in a zoo, one that asserts that its mission is to be "known and respected for its high standards and quality regarding the keeping of animals," and for its "ethics".

Mission and vision

All of which raises some questions: Why is the zoo breeding reticulated giraffes, when they are not endangered in the wild? And why did they let Marius's parents mate?

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List of Threatened Species only 13% of species kept in European zoos were classified as "Globally Threatened."

So, if these zoos aren't really engaged in conserving species as they claim, what is their purpose?
