Yes the state can infringe on it. Thats what "regulated" basically means.
and since the 2nd was to allow the citizens guns to keep the government in control should it ever (like now) get out of control, the question has to be asked. Regulated by who? the same government that the 2nd was created to keep in check?
Seems counterproductive to me.
That wasnt the reason the 2nd was created. The clue is in it being a state right. The south wanted to make sure they could arm their militias in the event of slave/NA uprisings. The wording had to be changed to state so they would join the union.
Not really... Boy
Yes really...cave chimp

The Second Amendment was Ratified to Preserve Slavery

"If the country be invaded, a state may go to war, but cannot suppress [slave] insurrections [under this new Constitution]. If there should happen an insurrection of slaves, the country cannot be said to be invaded. They cannot, therefore, suppress it without the interposition of Congress . . . . Congress, and Congress only [under this new Constitution], can call forth the militia."

And why was that such a concern for Patrick Henry?

"In this state," he said, "there are two hundred and thirty-six thousand blacks, and there are many in several other states. But there are few or none in the Northern States. . . . May Congress not say, that every black man must fight? Did we not see a little of this last war? We were not so hard pushed as to make emancipation general; but acts of Assembly passed that every slave who would go to the army should be free."

Do you realize moron that the first gun control laws in this country were to deny Indians and slaves guns...?
Thats true but what did that have to do with my post moron? The NRA voted for gun control to keep the BP's from carrying their guns.

Did jared fogle have an absolute right to a computer before he committed his acts of child porn?

Wrong asshole......gun control....weapon control...has always been exercised by governments to keep the people unarmed and under their control.....this goes back to the beginning of human history....from Europe to Asia....keeping weapons out of the hands of people has always been the way of the world......

Our country is the first country to enshrine this Right as part of our governing philosophy...and you assholes want to give it up and return to the bad old days...

The problem is not people having the right to own a gun or the current gun control laws the problem is thinking you can pass a law or laws that will stop crazy people from doing crazy things.

No its a fact. Lookup the Mulford act. The NRA supported it because they didnt want Blacks to be able to have guns.

Adam Lanza was still in school..
And how do you know people are crazy before they act crazy? Do people want to start forcing sane tests on us too?

Good question. How do we know someone is a criminal before they commit a crime? How do we know if and when someone will go "postal" before they do?

There are no easy answers to these questions, and yet the NRA's position is to deprive the 2nd A. right to those who have never been violent but have a diagnosis of a mental disorder. IMO persons who have been involved in physical fights, abusive relationships and threatened harm to others, and never arrested, are a greater danger than a schizophrenic who has never engaged in those sorts of activities.

The second amendment is clear. Every American can keep and bear arms and the stinking government can't infringe on this right.

However thanks to progressives, the Constitution is just about meaningless. Americans are ruled by a small criminal elite, who have gained near total power.

Seems a good time for you to immigrate, if you truly believe such nonsense.

if its ok to force testing and license and background checks for one right, then it is certainly reason to believe that the same conditions can be put on another, like voting.

Good Idea. Let's only allow only those with a four year degree from a University the right to vote. Anyone without such a degree, or holds a JD or MBA, should also be excluded.

And it is that little thing called due process that you guys hate.....

Adam Lanza didn't own a gun.

He sure possessed one. Which leads to a panoptic discussion on gun control. How culpable are gun owners when the gun they own is used to commit a crime?

Dig up his mother, and arrest her for allowing him to use one of her guns AFTER he murdered her

Look up the word culpable. All assets owned by the mother should be distributed to the surviving families.

Yes....democrats did this when blacks first tried to vote.......then the Republicans had to step in and stop them...again...

Lets say someone is unstable.

How does that fact mean they will never have the need of a weapon?

Either to feed or protect themselves or others?

define unstable....the number of mentally ill people in this country is large, the number who are dangerous are few......
Just go take a glance in the mirror.

Don't have to...I am reading your posts...says it all....
You were reading my posts before you asked that question. Obviously you need to look in the mirror so you can see what unstable looks like.

Reagan was a Republican and he and the NRA worked to make sure Black people couldnt carry weapons.

Really?

He waited for the will to be read before he took the firearms?

The Supreme Court has found some gun control laws to be constitutional. They have also found some gun control laws to be unconstitutional. So if you want an answer to the OP question, you have to be way more specific as to the nature of gun control you are talking about.

Not true. There are those who hold to the opinion that any form of gun control is unconstitutional. That is the point of the question, if one law refutes the claim of nothing can infringe on this right, the right becomes a privilege.

LOL

Do I want felons, spouse abusers, children under the age of 16, a few others, to be allowed to own firearms?

No

Do I want the majority of US citizens to have the right to own them?

Yes

So you believe the 2nd A. does not allow for everyone to own, possess or have in their custody and control. How do we 'weed out' those who should not own or possess a gun?

Harsher sentences, actually enforced, for straw purchases, crimes including a firearm, felons caught in possession of a firearm.

I agree, but most of these crimes and penalties are already in force. We need to reform the Criminal Justice System (CJS), but that is for another thread.
