Beautiful Black Ballerina

I am happy. Didn't you read the thread title? Didnt you notice what forum this thread is in? Sorry if her struggles with white racists bothered you.
Sad that you and others like you cannot recognize the value, and the courage, needed to overcome difficulties in life, regardless of where they originate. If you could, you might try encouraging your young people to work to overcome adversity some other way than use of violence, lying in the streets, burning their neighborhoods, and shooting each other. You might teach your young people that there are other ways to find their way in life than popping out other children indiscriminately, or clinging to the drug/gang culture. But it does take courage, and perseverance, and guts. So much easier to stay on the plantation and avoid being labeled "oreos" or "unka toms", isn't it?
What does that have to do with this beautiful Black woman becoming triumphant over white racists that tried to keep her down?

She's half white genius same as Obama who came out of his "Whitey" mothers wumb:thup:

Like Obama she says she is Black. Watch the video and read this genius. Must suck fo you that she doesnt id with being white.

Bitch please. She's no Jackie Robinson.

Who was the first black woman in porn? In 1973, Desiree West became one of the first African-American adult film industry star to be consistently cast

OMG there is even racism in porn!

"Adult film stars are known for pushing the limits. They get paid to perform sexual acts many have never even heard of, let alone seen before. Porn stars will do most anything, it seems, except for one act that is still taboo within the industry: interracial sex.

Unlikely ballerina takes the stage - CNN.com Video

I saw her on tv and she is amazing.

Is it racism or is it just not a lot of ballerina schools in the hood? Hey! We were talking about black people staring more business'. Maybe you can open up a dance school in the hood. You would have virtually no competition.

Exactly, all this means i there is a great opportunity available for black dancers if someone would start black ballerina troops. I think the wierd world of ballet is so rooted in its ancient traditions how things have to 'look' on stage that they dont exactly represent most normal people. Its almost like putting a white dancer into an African cultural dance. not exactly, but I think its kinda similar.

Already plenty of them. I told you we dont always report to you.

And I told you I use to drive through the hood all the time going to visit gramma. Never saw any dance schools. Lots of nail & weave stores, barber shops, bars, party stores, gas stations, car washes, churches, soup kitchens, dollar stores, churches chicken, kfc, mcd, gun stores, boarded up business'.

I get what you are saying.

I would love to see an all black ballerina group. Sorta like how they made Annie black this time. Great idea.

Just like I love black school marching bands. They do it way better than white bands.

What good would that do for the industry though? Just because there are Black ballerina troops if the profession doesnt accept them then they would have to compete against them lacking the prestige and support of the famous ballet companies.

That's a pretty good summary. :D It's very, very competitive and not always very nice. The dancers and instructors can be really mean too, just vicious I tell you! Lol! I took ballet for several years when I was young, and it was like that for me, and that was just amateur. I can't imagine how much worse it is in the professional world.

Well yeah your right, they would be up against a wall in that sense, but, I think it still represents an opportunity, to be positive here. Because there actually is a vaccum. I think with the right backing and knowledge of the industry someone could do sometghing quite profound. There must be some all black ballet troops
somewhere in th eworld right? Then again,... I dont know much about this art form. I think the instructors and directors must be very rooted in the past traditions,
obviously.

I always thought those instructors were people who liked to torture young girls

which reminds me,.... wow torture! we souldnt be doing that. Can we outlaw ballet please??
Maybe we should have made Sheik K mohammed perform ballet practice. That woul dhave broken him down much sooner

I could see it now. People already call Miss Black America racist. I know a couple of kids in all Black ballerina troops. The problem remains one of perception on how a ballerina should look.

You might be right on this one, It would be interesting to see how professionals from the ballerina world comment on these things to get another perspective. A lot of it has to to with the audience for this type of art. Change the clientel and you change the art form, probably something that will happen naturally as well

It will take more time. The more people speak out on it the sooner it will change.

Half the time I'm busting your balls by the way. I agree with most everything you say my friend. Just don't expect because I'm a liberal for me to always agree with you when you pull the race card. Most of the time I will but not every time. And don't call everyone who disagrees with you or questions black culture a racist. We may be wrong or bigots but like you, we

Are black people buying tickets and filling up theaters?

This reminds me of when women wanted the WNBA but then WOMEN don't go to watch WOMENS basketball. Why aren't women interested in women's basketball? Not enough to fill a stadium.

If the ballet was coming to Compton or Detroit, would it sell out? In Detroit it would but it would be mostly whites from the suburbs.

Again, you should have black ballets and black audiences. Stop asking whity to include you on all the stuff we do. Remember you don't care about us or what we think? Remember you don't need us?

Oh yea, and where would any black rapper be if it wasn't for white people buying their albums? Black artists who are only famous in the black community would love to get that white money.

the point of the OP is that all black people should get the position of their choosing without the corresponding qualifications

if a tree falls in the woods and there is no black person there to hear it, is it still racism?

Yes, it's very competitive and many ballerinas NEVER make it. Has nothing to do with their skin color though.

[sigh]...more than you can understand, apparently. It's all about racism with you and you are possibly forever unable to overcome that blindness.
You must not have watched the video. She spoke about how deeply racism in entrenched in the art. Why do you think I posted this in the race and racism forum?

Because it IS about race and illustrates the subject of the video becoming successful IN SPITE of being subjected to it, so thanks for posting.

Of course there will always be those who are more comfortable "lecturing" from a safe distance.

You must be white.

I suppose claiming you're "black" instead of mixed race has it's advantages. If they'd own up to their entire genetic heritage, they couldn't play that racist card when convenient.
That only works when they are not turned down or discouraged for being Black. Must mixed race women take pride in being Black. I have only met a few that prefer being white and they always seem to have self hate issues.

It is interesting how Americas standards have come full circle. Prior to the "One Drop Rule" being signed into law in the 20th century, many black citizens who were of mixed race "passed" for white to avoid oppressive, legal discrimination which obviously would have made life much more difficult.

Now, in 2014, such mixed race people who acknowledge their black half and embrace it as who they are, often are viewed by the white collective as "traitorous" to their white half for considering themselves black.

Its amazing. It tickles me to no end to see white people get upset when mixed people desire to call themselves Black. Its apparent to me that there is a difference of opinion as to what the concept of Blackness is to whites
