Zone1 Belief in God drops to 81 percent

You seem to be implying that this is a positive. Is there a correlation between the hostility toward religion (and religious people) and the downward slide of morality in our country?
No, there isn’t

In many ways, the secular world is more moral than the religious right with their oppression of gays, support of capital punishment, disdain for immigrants

With a totally erroneous concept of "God" being so common and so endorsed by society, it is no wonder that so many people have come to reject it. That doesn't mean there isn't a non-material quality to existence and to which a human could be sensitive in some way. Cosmic intelligence, to use a term, may very well form the information of which matter consists (or, as many physicists express things). Humans may sense or intuit this and that is equivalent to revelation, "religious experience", etc. It is certainly the kind of thing many people could not relate to in other than the most symbolic and familiar vocabulary.
In any case, defining "God" must be understood as a tail-chasing endeavor. The closer one thinks to be to doing so, the further one indeed is.

Aren't you ignoring economic factors, education of women, two income families, population density and fundamentalist hypocrisy? Baptists have been covering up for pedophiles for decades. Look at the isolation of the fundamentalists, the creationist rejection of science and education. Look at the prosperity gospel and the megachurches.

There‘s no disdain for immigrants, first of all. Are you speaking of Republicans objecting to ILLEGAL immigration?

Also, there is no oppression of gays among my friends, all of whom believe in G-d.

And finally, support of capital punishment is not immoral - that’s just your liberal tendency to side with vicious murderers. Besides, how can you call people who support capital punishment immoral when you support murdering unborn children?

Thank you for demonstrating your disdain for religion and religious people.

And another liberal with disdain for religious people.

Yes, there certainly is a correlation between the hostility liberals exhibit for religion and their embrace of an increasingly lawless society.

Nope. I don't distain religious people at all. The problem is that the Dominionists and Dispensationists are driving people away from faith. You can't expect Christians to reject science and education. We aren't living in the Bronze Age.

To appease creationists at the convention. Political expedience.

You know, you don't have to just make up lies. You can actually go read about this stuff in history books.

Also, it saves you from embarrasisng yourself in front of people who HAVE read up on it.
the majority supported the inclusion of those words. that's how a democratic republic works. Do you really want to live like the North Koreans or Chinese?

What if you are worshiping the wrong God and the real God is pissed at you?
there is only one God, the various religions use different words and symbols to describe and communicate with Him. But it's the same God. But you are free to be a non-believer if that is your choice. No one wants to force anyone to believe or practice religion (except maybe muslims)

you are very confused and ignorant. Most Christian churches accept and love gays, capital punishment is a secular decision made by states and nations, it is not a religious dictate. the disdain is for the left's encouragement of ILLEGAL immigrants, legal immigrants are loved and welcomed by all religions.

The kickback against gay rights and gay marriage came from the Christian right
They used their religion as a justification to discriminate against gays.

Don’t pretend that Christian’s “accept and love gays”

Most religions have multiple interpretation of God or Gods.

Most of the world does not accept Jesus

We don’t really have to accept and love them, actually. All that is required is that we don’t discriminate.

the question was about God. Christians believe that Jesus was God incarnate, others believe otherwise, muslims believe the Mohammed was the messenger or God. Hindus worship many sub Gods but only one supreme being. Islam is the largest religion in the world and yes, they do not accept Jesus, so what? This started with you claiming that there is no proof of God, now you have gone way off that topic trying to change the subject. We all understand who and what you are.
