If you read up on it, most of the federal money allocated to national forests are used for the fires. This didn't happen overnight, and estimates to clean up all that dead wood and brush will take over a decade even if we did have the money.

Nancy is perfectly capable of sponsoring a bill for more money to clean up the forests.

There is $2.5 billion there... You make it sound like Democrats caused the problem but it was Ryan who cut the funding years ago...

He was fine with allocating funds that stayed within those caps, but all parties eventually agreed to start the full level of funding in fiscal year 2020, according to the aide.

The fix was widely praised by members of both political parties from the West. Many have been trying to get this sort of funding on wildfires for years but repeatedly failed to get congressional action.

Ryan has publicly spoken against creating new funding for fighting wildfires in the past, warning members not to approve a bill that would have had similar fixes to wildfire funding when he was Budget Committee Chairman in 2014.

He cited the prospect of increasing federal spending too rapidly, and advocated for instead fully funding the way wildfire fighting was already handled in the federal budget, called the FLAME account.

That account provided the U.S. Forest Service with a fund calculated by taking the 10-year average cost of fighting wildfires. That was the method that resulted in the underfunding and necessary fire borrowing from wildfire prevention funding.

Research shows for every $1 spent on wildfire prevention, taxpayers save $6 to $8, Rep. Lou Barletta, R-Pa., chairman of the a House emergency management subcommittee, said at a hearing on wildfire impacts earlier in March."

This is not all Republicans bad or all Democrats good... But Trump is the one who got the money and he then tried to blame the states.

Lets look at the states, here is a map of forrest ownership in California

"The federal government through the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and National Park Service owns about 19 million acres of the total 33 million acres of forestlands in the state of California representing about 57% of the forest areas. Private nonindustrial entities own about one‑quarter (8 million acres) acres of forestland. These include families, individuals, conservation and natural resource organizations, and Native American tribes. Industrial owners—primarily timber companies—own 14 percent (4.5 million acres) of forestland. State and local governments own about a 3 percent (1 million acres) combined. In total these non-federal entities represent about 43% of the states forest areas."

Governor Newsom had to invoke the declaration of a State of Emergency in late March 2019 so he could get access to as much land as he can for forrest management.

Again 2/3 of the fires are on Federal land... The state and local have tried but there are vast tracks of forestry which they can't access...

California’s government solely responsible for states forest management and wildfire debacle - by the way this is a climate denial website...
