Biden-Harris Regime Shoots Down $24 Billion Pay Raise for Enlisted Troops

...

After Spending 7x More Than That on Ukraine

11 Jun 2024 ~~ By Jake Smith

(DCNF)—The Biden administration “strongly opposes” a proposal to raise the pay of junior enlisted service members in the military — even after nearly spending seven times the proposed amount on Ukraine and the broader region’s security.
The House Armed Services Committee’s (HASC) draft of the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) would give all junior troops a pay raise, representing a rough total of $24.4 billion over five years, according to the Congressional Budget Office. The Biden administration said in a statement on Tuesday that it does not support the proposed “significant, permanent” pay hike until it has had a chance to conduct a compensation review.
“The Administration is strongly committed to taking care of our Servicemembers and their families, and appreciates the Committee’s concern for the needs of the most junior enlisted members, but strongly opposes making a significant, permanent change to the basic pay schedule before the completion of the Fourteenth Quadrennial Review of Military Compensation,” the White House budget office said.

The pay level for junior troops has failed to remain competitive with the civilian job market, especially with rising inflation, the study found. Junior troops received smaller pay raises than senior servicemembers — or no raise at all — in eight of the last 40 years.
“While families of our junior enlisted struggle on food stamps, this administration opposes their pay raises and wants to force-feed them pronoun training and drag queen story hour. If Biden had any PRIDE at all in our troops, he’d support the long overdue pay raise House Republicans have passed.”

Commentary:
This is a good thing.
Regretfully, the "New Woke" military opposes the American people.
And so, Democrat Neo-Marxists feel that anything that weakens the military is a good thing.
Our present military suffers from retention problems, and now is chasing off enlistments too... perfect.
To Biden it's just another lie in the oath he took to serve and protect America.

and you thought Trump hates the service members?

Another disingenuous right wing article. Biden/Harris do not oppose a raise. They want to finish a review of military compensation before they decide how much the raise will be. It's time the lies stopped.

Yep! Another disingenuous one! Out of many, sadly!

When did the House and Senate pass the NDAA of 2025 and send the bill to the President to veto?

BTW - The GOP controlled House says the 14th Quadrennial Review of Military Compensation isn't even do for it's report until the end of January 2025.

So the OP's title is disingenuous about what is happening.

A more balanced reporting of the story....

I will have to say I oppose the White Houses objections to both the pay raise and the end of testing for pot when one enlisted or is commissioned in the military.

But it looks like the pay raise is supported by members from both parities so I wonder if Biden will have to back down and sign it

which is perhaps why it is not worth waiting for.

The Biden admin is on the wrong side of this

As you can assume being retire Enlisted ourselves I doubt either of us oppose a pay raise for enlisted troops. And while the OPs article is clear, I think the title is not accurate as I don't think the administration opposes a pay raise. They already requested one.

But as you know the entire pay structure is a balanced affair based on rank and steps (time in service). When only one section (E1-E4) are adjusted without consideration of overall balance you end up with unintended issues. Putting a band aid on one problem doesn't solve the overall injury.

Let's take an E-4 and E-5 Over 4 years as an example:

2024:
E-4 over 4 = $3066.30 per month
E-5 over 4 = $3365.70 per month

2025 (assumed 5% raise):
E-4 over 4 = $3219.62 per month
E-5 over 4 = $3533.99 per month

2025 (assumed 5% raise for E-5 and 19.5% (5% plus and additional targeted adjustment of 15%) raise for E-4):
E-4 over 4 = $3664.23 per month
E-5 over 4 = $3533.99 per month

Under a targeted scenario where E-1 to E-4 get an 19.5% pay raise and the E-5 only gets 5% you have people with the same length of service, but where the junior is paid more than the next rank up.

That is a disaster from a compensation system standpoint.

They would have to adjust all the pay levels up even more to account for it.

Another disgusting display of Biden putting Americans last. Plenty of money for Ukraine and Hamas, but none for our troops.

His insane premature withdrawal from Afghanistan showed how much he values our troops. 13 Marines killed and he didn't give a shit. He certainly doesn't care about their pay.

Maybe he is still pissed off at the military for kicking his crackhead felon son out.
