Well, that was ugly as all get out.

Listen, the first thing you do is NOT let LEOs into your house. Never let them in, this is YOUR right.

You ask them if they have a warrant, and then you can either tell 'em to fuck off or "come back when you have one".

If they have one, you're probably fucked by that point, but until then, never let the cops into your house, especially not to shoot you dead. This is a travesty of justice, the 4th Amendment, and The American Way.

The real police dysfunction here wasn’t the shooting itself. That’s a tragic byproduct (and it’s hard to apologize for causing a fatal wound).

The real police dysfunction is whenever they fail — at a command level — to properly verify the location and make sure that it is the only one breached. It happens too frequently. And, yes, it is completely unacceptable policing.

Fortson was alone in his apartment when he heard a knock at the door. He asked who was there but didn't get a response. A few minutes later, there was a very aggressive knock on the door, Crump said in a statement, but Fortson didn't see anyone when he looked out the peephole.

The woman said Fortson was concerned and went to retrieve his gun, which Crump said was legally owned.

As Fortson walked back through his living room, deputies burst through the door, saw that Fortson was armed and shot him six times, according to Crump's statement. Fortson was on the ground, saying, "I can't breathe," after he was shot, Crump said.

Fortson died at a hospital, officials said. The deputy involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

The woman said Fortson wasn't causing a disturbance during their Facetime call and believes that the deputies must have had the wrong apartment, Crump's statement said.

Looks like this young man was murdered.

No. That’s not remotely what it “looks” like.

Short of lives being in imminent danger, entering these abodes should be illegal. People leave their apartments.

Ever since Waco, and the reports that David Koresh would frequently walk around town, I've been convinced that this is how you should apprehend someone: walking out of a store, or something by surprise. Not confronting them where they live and have their weapons, and going blindly into a house and a likely deadly situation. This guy was going to leave the house. It's safer to apprehend him out in the open.

Roger Fortson shooting

A Florida sheriff’s deputy announced himself as law enforcement just before fatally shooting a Black U.S. Air Force airman inside his apartment in the state’s Panhandle, according to body camera video shown to reporters Thursday.

Okaloosa County Sheriff Eric Aden presented the video hours after the family of Senior Airman Roger Fortson and their attorneys held a news conference in which they disputed that the deputy acted in self-defense.

The video from the deputy’s body camera showed that Fortson answered his apartment door with what appears to be handgun pointed down toward the floor. The video shows the deputy banging on the door, stepping aside, seemingly out of view of the door. Twice he shouted: “Sheriff’s office!”

The door opened, and the deputy shouted, “Step back!” The deputy then fired off shots and shouted, “Drop the gun! Drop the gun! Do not move!” The deputy then called for paramedics on his radio.

This has got to stop. There is no indication that Fortson pulled the gun on the officer, but that he was holding a gun. Just holding a gun in a state were they recently passed condtitutional carry. This is Florida, the cops will probably get away with this killing.
