They hit him in the head with a can, and it had swollen. Beating people in the head can result in a terrible future for them, especially if the brain separates from the skull in the kind of massive beating the man received.

I think the "boredom" schtick was thought up after they bushwhacked a white man out of sheer racial hatred. The public does not deserve to live in fear of the six bullies whose victim died a year after their heinous assault. He never went out in public again. That tells a lot about the viciousness of their attack.
