Breaking News: Restaurants Closing All Over Seattle As $15 Minimum Wage Mandate Starts April 1st.

come on....those who support a "living wage" should the 16 year old working at the ice cream shop get 15 dollars an hour? what about the guy at 7-11 behind the counter?

any answer to that? should the stockera stacking goods on shelves make enough money to finance a home, a car and sending their kids to college, as well as a vacation to Dismey every year?

15 dollars and hour is not enough

it should have been closer to 22.50 an hour

that would have solved the problems

Please...where does the 22.50 come from.....? Where does the 15 dollars come from in a donut shop....since the donut worker is just as entitled to a "living wage" as the Walmart worker....right?

certainly 22.50 is better to live off of over 15 dollars per hour

that is where 22.50 comes from

why not 30 dollars an hour which would be better yet

the one thing they forgot in the law

was to mandate that employers could not legally close down

and force then to pay those living wages

If $15/hr is really such a grand idea, why not make the minimum wage $115/hr, so everyone can have a standard of living that exceeds merely that of a living wage?

Every apologist for minimum wage says increasing wages has no effect on prices or employment... everyone just get more cash, and access to "the American Dream"

The min wage is racist and anti poor people.
The truth is that min wage workers are found in every social segment. But the products sold with min wage labor are overwhelmingly in low income areas. Thus higher min wage means higher benefits to people who can generally afford them but higher prices to people who can't.

If $22.50/hr is such a grand idea, why not $225.00/hr?

That would surely solve all the poverty problems, yes?

the "flaw" in the law if there is one

is that they did not mandate that business owners and employers

be mandated by the full force of the law to not be able to legally close its doors

or stop employing employees

The minimum wage has been falling for 50 years.

I've got an idea. Why don't YOU start up a burger business and YOU pay your workers whatever you want, 15 an hour, 22.50 an hour, or 500 an hour. Lead by example, show all those nasty republicans it can be done.

Put your money where your mouth is.

Waiters/Waitresses do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT depend on their minimum wage salaries to build their lives...They count on TIP money. And good ones make a shitpile of TIPs.

Then most of the ones I find here in New England must be living out of boxes. It's incredibly rare that I find above average service in a restaurant or bar. I find poor service much more often.

Adjusted for inflation the minimum wage peaked around 1969. Back then the minimum wage had a buying power of over $10/hr.

In reality those of you wishing for a lower minimum wage have been getting your wish for about 50 years.

The result of $15 an hour restaurant wage law......

Ah....but it is sooooo much easier to have a politician mandate the change on the other guy......and then take all his stuff if he refuses to comply.........starting a business, finding a location, buying inventory and products, hiring and managing workers, paying them, giving the benefits.......

That takes....well.....actual work.........

from employers and business owners

that are mandated by law or face serious consequences to continue to employ these folks

Then shut the fuck up.

it is a free country

i refuse to shut the fuck up you asshole tyrant

if the government can mandate that people buy a product from a private business

or face serious consequences

the same can be applied to business owners that they be mandated to continue to employ these folks

regardless of what the wages are set at
