Truly a quick witted, funny man...able to make statues laugh...or at least evoke a smile from underneath a sad drama mask. Truly a shame that we'll see nothing new from him...ever.

All the money in the world and he couldn't stay off drugs. Too bad.

No, he was all but bankrupt.

That's why he took a role in a stupid sitcom.

People said the same about Mickey Rooney but he had something like $16K when he died.

I suspect you're correct about the money problems. He'd been trying to sell his Napa estate for a long time - big price cut earlier this year.

Robin Williams? $30 million Napa estate returns to market - On The Block

The "stupid sitcom", however, made him a star...and I don't think he regretted doing the gig.

Very sad seems to be another one who just could not get past the booze and drugs.

The family says he was severely depressed. Maybe he regretted throwing his wife out for the Mexican babysitter.

Maybe you are thinking of another Robin Williams?

Robin Williams - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robin Williams' first marriage was to Valerie Velardi on June 4, 1978. They have one child, Zachary Pym (Zak) (born April 11, 1983). During Williams' first marriage, he was involved in an extramarital relationship with Michelle Tish Carter, a cocktail waitress whom he met in 1984. She sued him in 1986, claiming that he did not tell her he was infected with the herpes simplex virus before he embarked on a sexual relationship with her in the mid-1980s, during which, she said, he transmitted the virus to her. The case was settled out of court. Williams and Velardi divorced in 1988.[42][43]

On April 30, 1989, he married Marsha Garces, his son's nanny, who was already several months pregnant with his child. They have two children, Zelda Rae (born July 31, 1989) and Cody Alan (born November 25, 1991). However, in March 2008, Garces filed for divorce from Williams, citing irreconcilable differences.[43][44]

Williams married his third wife, graphic designer Susan Schneider, on October 23, 2011, in St. Helena, California.[45] Their residence was Williams' house in Sea Cliff, a neighborhood in San Francisco, California.

All but bankrupt due to a divorce settlement. If money woes were the root of the depression then we can chalk up another man to unjust anti-male divorce industry.

An article on his finances:

"There are bills to pay. My life has downsized, in a good way. I'm selling the ranch up in Napa. I just can't afford it anymore."

The "Mrs. Doubtfire" star divorced his first wife in 1988 and ended his second marriage with Marsha Garces in 2008 after 19 years.

"Divorce is expensive. I used to joke they were going to call it 'all the money', but they changed it to 'alimony'. It's ripping your heart out through your wallet," Williams said.

He's currently married to graphic designer Susan Schneider who he tied the knot with in 2011.

I wonder why he would do it. There had to be something really bad happening to him if he did really end it all.

I don't think I ever could.

If we don't reply to her....well, that's the best thing.

I've been ignoring that bitch for a while. Scum of the earth.

Coming from you that's a profound complim bugent. The man was a talented comedian. He was also a drug addict and a drunk. Like all drug addicts and drunks they don't live long.

Yeah, cuz 63 years old is like midlife.

Yeah, you don't really start living until 120. And, geez, RW had like hardly any accomplishments.

Robin was a comic genius and an acclaimed dramatic actor. I was having a great day till I heard this. i still can't believe it. The world is a much sadder place today.

A lot of creative (and not so creative) people struggle with depression...

Perhaps he died from choking on his own vomit if he overdosed. Nobody will know for awhile. And that should be for another thread, perhaps? Do folks normaly go to funerals or wakes and talk about the bad things or do they go to show love and respect?

Still, Williams could snag a few million each for a couple of movies and move on.

I doubt this was about money, and more the demons in his head.

Why is it that so many good comedians are tortured in their hearts and minds? Is that what makes them so good? The comedy that keeps them going in their heads then share with us, is that why they have that gift?

I realize I don't really know this guy or any Hollywood actor, but when it is someone that has made you feel good and laugh so many times, it connects deeper and harder to see them go.

God bless him, I hope he has finally found peace.

As a golfer, this one took the cake for me. He explains it and nails a Scottish accent all at the same time:
