But, But China...! Bah!!!

China props NK because NK provides a healthy portion of their resources - it's not about political ideology...

I would think it would be the other way around, that China provides for the NK. What resources does the NK have?

Coal mostly - OEC - North Korea (PRK) Exports, Imports, and Trade Partners

As a whole China buys 83-85% of NK's shit. It was a big deal when China banned coal imports earlier this year - lasts through December. ( North Korea remained China's fourth biggest supplier of coal last year, with non-lignite imports reaching 22.48 million tonnes, up 14.5 percent compared to 2015. - North Korea still needs time to perfect re-entry technology: South Korea vice defense minister ) and it's part of why Kim is going a bit ballistic, and why China kind of sticks by their side IMO. NK's economy is fucked without China buying their shit, and China isn't going to have coal issues if they lose the alliance with NK. China's already running a $60B/y deficit just to keep shit as it is (and that's kind of fake because they devalue their currency) on top of that they're feeling the pressure from global pressure to increase wages and work safety - which is driving them to put a lot of money into automation.

I'm willing to bet 90% of the automation that comes in the next five to ten years will come out of China, the shit part is that they'll be ahead of the technology curve and thus /still/ be able to produce shit cheaper than the US :/ America needs to get their butts in gear and grab some of the automation market, but the left would cry far too much...
