California has about one year of water left

Thank goodness, it's about time.

Let them dry up and flake off into the ocean. It can't happen fast enough for me.

Wishing death on other human beings and fellow Americans.

The christian point of view.

Next, we'll hear, "Let them drink sand."

Let them drink sand.

Wow- what a bunch of ignorant idiots posting.

I usually have slightly more patience, but not with this topic.

California is in the midst of a drought- that is the reason we have don't have enough water.
Most of the water used in the state is used by farming- and that is not an attack on farming- it is the reality.

IF we stopped all farming in California next year we would have a water surplus- but it would not only destroy our economy but it would deprive all of the United States of most of its produce, all of its almonds, etc.

It is a serious problem- and yes- it is time we in California take it seriously- unlike most of you clowns.

But maybe California technology will come to the rescue, the nick of time!

so they will pollute the earth with an over abundance of salt

sounds like a public sector means of production without the need for mining.

just one more reason why we should be advancing fusion (an energy with a future).

still mining

mining fresh water from salt water

where does all the salt waste go

The Californians should build their houses on it.

The salt never comes fully out of solution. The brine is returned to the ocean, as is all the fresh water after humans have used it. The net effect on ocean salinity is zero.

If you're worried about increasing salinity in the world's oceans, you could worry about it's increasing temperature and the increasing temperature of the air above it. This will lead to increased evaporation which will increase the ocean's salinity a HELL of a lot more than will all the desalination plants humans could build in the next thousand years.
