Can Anyone Tell Me Why It Is So Essential To Increase Defense Spending Over The Near Term?

They're gonna take the land route?

To where?
You're worried about aircraft carriers and hypersonic missiles.

I'm worried about shipping containers and our porous border.

What does the balloon trick tell us about the enemy?

That they understand that we are hyper-focused on high tech threats...and almost ignore low tech threats.

Why not simply IMPORT their weapons instead of shooting them into the stratosphere?

Why invade the old fashion way...when we'll just --- let you in?

The Military today is just another form of mutually assured destruction.

China...you pull that trigger...you better be sure.

No we aren't...
Our proxies are supplying "obsolentent" gear, proving plenty good enough.
We are getting a remarkably cheap way to battle test some of our systems.
Maybe so

But weapons stockpiles are being depleted that we will need in the future

If there was EVER a time to re-examine how addicted we are to spending enormous sums of money on things that go boom, surely it would be now.

Our historical foe is crippling itself, burning through its vast arsenal at an accelerating rate.

They will have to rebuild their military asset base, while under international sanctions. This will be enormously expensive, and will take a decade.
/——/ Tell those socialist countries you adore to build their own military and defend themselves. Then we can reduce our military spending.

While Taiwan, Japan and S. Korea serve them drinks?
Taiwan and Japan are fully committed to opposing chinese aggression

South Korea is still on the fence because of not wanting to provoke their largest trading partner

No where. China does not want to take over the world with their military, they are doing it economically while we are wasting trillions on invading countries no threat to us
Golfing Gator is uninformed as usual

10 years ago china was rolling along economically

But not anymore

And anyone reading the news who believes in a world not dominated by China gets why, Alfalfa

Serious waste and fraud. Unfortunately nobody wants to fix it. Congress needs to reign in the bloat. Too many useless Generals and such. Ax you DEI Commissars. Find the waste or face automatic budget cuts until you do.

With the way the world is now it's obvious why we need to stay on top.

So how do the chicoms get that carrier into the Pacific?

I think that carrier cannot defend itself in the Pacific

It needs to operate closer to china
But the purpose of a carrier is to project power.

It is not optimized for coastal defense or amphibious landings.
