It's difficult to characterize the Democrats as "the left" because they are a coalition Party. Cantor was the only non Christian Republican in congress. And they replaced him with David Dukes without the baggage, what ever that means. Now the GOP is 100% Christian and more than 90% white. This may be called the most diverse congress in history, but the minorities are nearly all Democrat. One black GOP Senator and two GOP blacks in the house. And that's it. The other dozen GOP minorities in the house are divided among Hispanics, Native American and who ever else doesn't identify as white. And that's out of hundreds.
There are no Republican liberals. And if polling is any indication, the majority of Republicans believe the earth is only thousands of years old and man was shimmered into existence by God's finger.

And while there are Democrats that do some of the same things as Republicans, it's because there are Conservative Democrats. They even have their own name.

Clearly the Democrats are a broad spectrum party. The Republicans are radical, ignorant and liable to do crazy things because of a lack of balance..
