Do you presume those kids are representative of all kids?Why should we say that? Most kids I knew smoked before they drank.
Parental influence is the critical component in this issue. If parents lie to their kids about the supposed dangers of "smoking pot" the kids eventually will discover those warnings were fabricated and they will assume everything they are told about every other recreational substance is equally false.
There also is the lure of the illicit, which is a significant factor in juvenile marijuana use. The Netherlands decriminalized marijuana in 1976. Among the beneficial results has been a significant reduction in adolescent use. Because it is no longer illegal the kids have lost interest.
As my friend Pete Hamill has wisely observed, "If you want to make sure your kids brush their teeth, make it illegal."
