The reason ed makes statements without links to prove the drivel he posts is that it IS drivel and he has no proof. You do not, of course, tax venture capital. As we all understand (except ed) that we tax income, and whether that income would be used as venture capital is impossible to know. What we do know is that taxing venture capitalists means taxing wealthy people, and studies always show that taxing the wealthy has no discernible effect on the economy.

Economists have observed that the rich spend a smaller total percentage of their income than the poor. This is why the vast majority of investments (which require saving) are owned by the very rich (see chart). The poor and middle class spend more, proportionally.

Therefore raising the income tax on high earners will not hurt total consumption as much as raising taxes on low earners. If we must choose someone to raise taxes on, this is one reason we should choose the rich.

in venture capital we talk about "shots on goal" the more shots we take the more likely we will score and create new ventures and new jobs. When the govt taxes our gains we have less with which to take more shots.
