City s Speed Traps Backfire CBS-Chicago - Yahoo Screen

Gotta love it.....

Emanual loses 50 million because they put in speed cams and revenues are down.

Funny how a city needs that revenue to run.

If it is gone...then what...more taxes and people will start to see just how much we spend on social programs.

They they can decide if they really want those programs.

Speed cameras are nothing more then a money generating racket and some studies have shown that they cause more accidents. Don't the companies that install them a get a portion of the fines as well?

We had speed cams in Charlotte a few years ago but they were voted down. A ticket cost $50 and the photo company was getting 70% or $35 per violation. The state said Charlotte was to give 90% to the state school system and Charlotte didn't agree so they suspended the program. However, the city is talking about using cameras again. Gotta get that revenue!

Pittsburgh is trying to get them installed as well. I've been sending council members by opinions on the matter quite frequently. I don't believe it will have much impact though. They see dollars signs.

Is it lost on folks that 50 million a year in spending has to be replaced...and it appears that catching speeders won't do it.

Does this mean more taxes for the people of the Chicago (who can't afford bullet proof vests already).
