Christian Street Preachers Assaulted at Gay Pride Festival

marriage is not a right, it is an institution.

Not according to the SCOTUS. They've declared it a fundamental right on at least three occasions.

no, they did not

and it does not matter - it is still not a right, but an institution.

nothing wrong with civil unions - why the need to upgrade?

maybe it has something to do with something called equal rights? I dunno...just a shot in the dark...

marriage is not a right, it is an institution.

It used to be all about actually NOT needed to marry and have fun - all along the gay history thorough centuries, and suddenly, in the last 5 years it becomes a burning issue of such omnirelevancy that nothing trumps it - not the economy, not the poverty, not even the sacred race issue ( though it is pure American thing).

European countries have established civil unions more than 20 years ago - so the issue of benefits/inheritance has been resolved. And suddenly it becomes a necessity to sanctify the civil unions all the way up to marriage. Why? The answer is simple - to redefine the institute of marriage as the base cell of any society.
An institution eh? Who invented this institution? Marriage is simply a contract between consenting people....

It's the homo agenda. They need to be accepted just like everyone else. Not just accepted, but encouraged. Because let's face it, left to their own devices they'll die off on their own.

Only partially. They are excepted - long time ago. Don't tell me you do not know gay people. Marriage and it's contractual responsibilities are the least of their worries.
Most of them do not even bother to have any contractual agreement as civil union, if some do - they have it.

Most real life gays do not resemble the militant hateful types you see on the screen even a little bit.

No, they want their "lifestyle" affirmed by the country. Gay bath houses and all.

Actually its the right of every free person which they are when they are born to do as they please with their bodies including to marry someone else...

no, it is not.

it is a contract of responsibility and therefore the base of stable society.

you did not answer my question - what is wrong with civil unions?

not the real life ones.

the issue reminds me the battle the CRNAs are conducting ( it is from the totally different area, but the abyss between the people you encounter in normal life and the ones which make the news is startlingly similar)

Actually its the right of every free person which they are when they are born to do as they please with their bodies including to marry someone else...

Then according to that logic, it's the right of ever ex con to hunt you down and rape you with their body.

Point is your assertion is clearly false.

And no one is stopping anyone from getting married. What we oppose is people changing the definition of marriage and then pretending they are married under the law.

If conditions were reversed the drag queen would have been on every talk show on the air and some that aren't. No sign of anybody inviting the preacher though.

Then by your very definition straight couples have DESTROYED the institution of marriage with sky high divorce rates and cheating.Nothing wrong with civil unions but everyone deserves the right to get married.

I forgot to mention the part where they are allowed to do what they want with their bodies etc UNLESS IT HARMS SOMEONE ELSE...sorry bout that. There is no definition of marriage...only "definition" is what some whacko xtians thought up to discriminate against people not like them...big fucking surprise there.

there is no right to get married.

and if there is nothing wrong with civil unions - there is no need to get married for anybody except a man and a woman. divorce rates have nothing to do with the institution of marriage between the man and the woman ONLY. ( if one wants a stable society, of course)

or you want to "marry" two men, one woman and a goat?

No? and why not? it is their "right" and by refusing to do so, you are being a bigot ;)

Let's see, a couple of homophobic religious nuts full of hatred toward gays show up with their message of hate at a park known to be a local hangout for gays. After sticking their signs in the faces of a number of gay people and gay bashing them verbally, a few of them retaliate.

Go into a gay bar and start your gay bashing, and after they whip your ass, call them intolerant. This is the typical approach of your everyday homophobe.

Fundamental rights are a group of rights that have been recognized by the Supreme Court as requiring a high degree of protection from government encroachment. These rights are specifically identified in the Constitution (especially in the Bill of Rights), or have been found under Due Process. Laws limiting these rights generally must pass strict scrutiny to be upheld as constitutional. Examples of fundamental rights not specifically listed in the Constitution include the right to marry and the right to privacy, which includes a right to contraception and the right to interstate travel.

This is never to be condoned, however. Hate is not best responded to with more hate. It should be noted:

Jason Queree, the man suspected of punching the protester multiple times, has been arrested 29 times since 1995. He has been convicted or otherwise found against for nine felonies, including forgery, stolen property, unlawful firearm possession and theft, and 12 misdemeanors, including driving with a suspended license, vehicle prowl, domestic violence, assault, DUI and criminal trespass.
