Cop runs over suspect on purpose.

So he was able to steal the rifle AND the correct ammunition too. It is just a little hard to believe.

I could easily do that in my local sporting goods store.
Or for that matter go and buy a box of ammo, put in your pocket, than ask to see a 30.30.

Since when do shoplifters pay for anything?

There must be rules about allowing ammo to go out along with the gun, and it must be carefully observed, I would think. Isn't ammo locked away and kept separate? Can it happen, of course, but like I said, it is not completely believable.

It's locked behind glass, and the guns are all locked behind separate locked glass cases. All the firearms are trigger locked, and policy is to never remove the trigger locks while the firearms are inside the store.

Seems the trigger locks are useless.

It has happened before.

What the fuck ever...so he steals a box of ammo.
I dont know about anywhere else but in Texas the ammo is on the shelf.
You could very easily put a box of ammo in your pocket and walk up to the gun counter and ask to see a gun in that caliber, load it,and walk out.
He does run the risk of encountering a CHL holder but if that doesnt happen who's going to stop him?

I'm waiting to get the facts about how the simian got hold of the rifle. No way he walked into any store and just grabbed one off the rack. Same with the ammo.

Like I said. Here in Texas you could easily pocket a box of ammo off the shelf and walk up to the gun counter and ask to see a gun of that caliber.
He'd open the bolt/slide to confirm it wasnt loaded and hand it to you.
At that point all you have to do is shove one round in it and you now have fire superiority...for the moment anyway.

What good is it to demonstrate what is available in Texas in something that happened in Arizona?

Had you read the whole thread you'd see where I pointed that out.
As far as I know most states dont keep ammo under lock and key,and it's not like it would matter anyway,he could spend the 15 bucks for the rounds and come back the next day with them in his pocket.
All i'm saying is it wouldnt be that hard to do,of course there's the bit where you'd have to be nuts, but other than that...

I bet they will after this. And I think they did in AZ...you hear the officer refer to the lock in the video.

The problem with a trigger lock on the 30-30 is the design of the lever action would make it pretty useless. A little wiggling and the lock would pop right out.

Same policy here, a manager takes your new rifle outside the store, only then may you take possession of it.

There is no way in ANY State in the county where you can walk in and purchase ANY firearm.......including a rifle without going through the application process. NO WAY!
There is NO WAY in any store in the country that is licensed to sell ANY firearm that ANYONE can simply walk in and grab one off the rack. Something about this story is missing big time.

Yeah, when you stop and think about it,it would be somewhat difficult to safe a 30-30.
I suppose you could zip tie the lever to the stock.

Maybe I'm not being clear.
The guy working the gun counter more than likely handed the gun to the guy willingly. All he had to do was pose as a customer.
Once he had the gun in his hands all he had to do was load it.
I'm not saying this is what went down, but it would be one explanation.

Sure you could, just about anywhere that sells firearms. What keeps it from happening is 99% of gun stores and pawn shops, the employees are armed. Walmart employees are not.

At my local Walmart, the firearms are in a locked glass door case behind a counter. Jump the counter and break the glass, you have access to the firearms. They are also trigger locked, but this guy grabbed one, by luck or knowledge, that the trigger lock was easily defeated. The rest of the guns in the case would have been much harder to defeat the trigger lock.

30-30 is typically only offered in lever action, which leads me to believe this guy stole a Marlin Model 336. The top of the trigger housing is open when the lever action is engaged, making the defeat of the trigger lock more likely than any other firearm.

Maybe run one of those cable locks thru the lower lever loop and around the stock.
