I got a text this afternoon from a friend, Stanley, in California. He was here in Florida about two months ago when his son contracted Covid-19.

The virus hit Justin hard. He was hospitalized in Jacksonville, and then he was life-flighted to a hospital in Atlanta which was better able to treat him. They did all the could for him before transferring him to UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Justin's lungs were pretty much destroyed by the virus, and his only hope for a semi-normal life was a transplant. A donor was never found, and Justin passed away peacefully yesterday afternoon.

Justin was a huge mask advocate and was vaccinated a good month before falling ill...

Condolences for your friend. I've already executed an advanced directive laying out the level of care I want in case I am one of the unlucky ones whose body is more susceptible to this virus. I just want the same medication they provide when they put someone on a vent but without being on a vent. They usually give pain meds, sedatives, and paralytics to keep the body from struggling as much to breathe.
If my body can't defeat it, then I'm ready to slip away. I just pray I don't have to suffer knowing that I'm slowly being asphyxiated.

The Delta variant is much worse than the original variant. It killed a 33 year old construction worker in good health where I work about 4 weeks ago.

We heard he went into the hospital on Friday. He was gone Monday.

But the inescapable fact is that this kid was healthy. He wore his masks. He got vaccinated. He did everything he was told needed to be done in order to safeguard his health to the nth degree.

And he's dead now.
