Crowder VS "Big Con"

The POINT crowder is making is why are we relying on YouTube when they could be building their own platform without the censorship. THAT is the point. Crowder said it is NOT about the money, it’s about them being so willing to bend to censorship rules of radical leftwing platforms. Crowder is ALREADY demonetized.
As Ben noted they don’t care about the fact that he is demonetized, he has 6 million subscribers who watch the show on YouTube and they do ad reads and promote Daily Wire subscriptions on the shows as well as books and other media and their other talent.

Steven comes off as a real asshole here. It’s fine to not want a deal, apparently he did try to negotiate for a much larger amount of money and no consequences for any of these things. They did not like that and countered and eventually it was decided they couldn’t get to a deal DW thought was both reasonable and protected their investment with clauses like “you have to do a certain amount of shows a year.”

The thing about “don’t get banned from x” is basically they have lawyers and other staff that closely monitor any TOS changes or enforcement trends on social media / dispute the moderators on said social media if they go after one of their people. What this effectively means is they know where the no-go areas are on say, YouTube, and are always abreast of what YouTube is doing in this regard before recording. If they know what they want to say would get the video taken down off YouTube, they leave that stuff for the sub-locked end of show or second subscription locked exclusive show in Ben’s case.

It’s the smart way to handle it. They use YouTube to get the word out and get more subscriptions, and their ad reads are worth more knowing they are on Spotify and YouTube and what not. If they were just a subscription based video site only with no social media presence and no free to watch content on the most popular podcast or streaming video sites, that is much fewer subscriptions and your ads would not be worth hardly anything because your millions of watchers / listeners because hundreds or even tens of thousands.

Also it’s worth noting that Crowder already understands this principle and protects his show on YouTube by having a segment at the end of most shows where he puts the stuff that would invoke the ire of YouTube’s censors.

I believe it’s even called Piss Off YouTube, or Fuck Off, YouTube or something… and like with Shapiro’s show, you need to be a subscriber to go watch the end of the show. Crowder’s is called “Mug Club” or some such.

Anyway, Crowder is acting like a dick and recording his former friends and playing that audio out of context. By comparison, Boreing and Shapiro are being very open: yes, that was our contract and we thought it was fair, now let us spend 50 minutes going over the whole thing page by page and what we were thinking. I mean you can personally think the job offer was good or bad, but if you choose not to take it or if negotiations fail and the company walks away, don’t be unprofessional about what was essentially the equivalent of a damn major sports contract ($12.5 m a year for 4 years) and bad mouth the people wanting to pay you such an ungodly sum for fussing about political things you would fuss about anyway for free.

Dumping their money into making a YouTube competitor doesnt seem like a great investment. RealVideo was WAAAY better than YouTube back in the day, yet Youtube still beat them. Now they are unstoppable.
