People flush things that fuck up the sewer system and water treatment plant. These cause expensive repairs and people are without water or sewage for a time.

Asking people not to do that is no different than when the government asked you not to dump your oil oil down the storm drain...but you probably do that too.

/-----/ My family has rental property in NC and a tenant complained the waste pipe was clogged. we got there and while inspecting the bathroom saw a roll of paper towels next to the toilet. We asked what that was for and he said they ran out of toilet paper and paper is paper. $3,000 to clean out the wastepipe and septic tank.

NYC will come up with a law stating all pets must be properly disposed of by the City of NY, and this 'service' for those dead gold fish will cost a pretty penny. City sanitation inspectors will check for flushed gold fish and track down where they came from. The perpetrators will face stiff fines, jail time, and / or public shaming.
