Apparently, these kids were on a class trip to DC, and visited one of their senators, not some presentation at their school thousands of miles away, so this is not a matter of something that took place at their school.
I suspect that there are thousands of eighth graders with whom teachers are discussing the subject of abortion, at least in religious private schools, if not public ones, so I don't think that age appropriateness is an issue.
If she had told the students that she was going to a rally to outlaw abortion, I wonder if people would be making the same complaints.
