The Daily Kos wants you to believe the failure of the ACA is having just that effect, starting in Vermont:

"Vermont is using authority granted under the Affordable Care Act to start a single-payer system. Most Americans still don't know what the phrase 'single-payer' even means. It had little support in Congress in09 and Senate 'Democrats' like Nelson and Lieberman even killed the public option. But, ACA had this sweet little provision that allowed states to set up a single-payer system and now people will see it in action. You know what that means.

"As Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) opines, 'The quickest route toward a national health care program will be when individual states go forward and demonstrate that universal and non-profit health care works, and that it is the cost-effective and moral thing to do...'”

"The progressive movement will be responsible for showing the nation how well single-payer works after the Vermont system goes into effect. When public and non-profit insurance becomes the national norm, we'll know where it began."

My State has not done single payer, but it DID add a nonprofit coop health insurance company to the exchange to compete with blue Cross blue shield Anthem....and the non profit coop prices did seem to be cheaper than Anthem....

That sounds like good news for yourself and your fellow citizens of Maine.
I turned 65 a little over one year ago, becoming eligible for Medicare and Medical.
Since that time, I've seen assorted health care professionals more often than during my entire adult life until August of 2012. My total co pays total $2.30 for a pair of prescriptions.

Single payer might be the issue to unite Occupy and the Tea Party.

All we need to know is Obama pulled the wool (lied through his teeth) over the American peoples eyes and pulled off the biggest fraud ever. And in the process is now hurting millions of American citizens

Will the people stand for it?

He should be Impeached and carted off to jail along with his comrades in arms administration running this government

President Obama will go down in history as the President that moved our health care system out of the 18th century into the 21st. And people like Staph will be remembered the same as the people that insisted that stringing all them electrical wires around the country would be the death of us all.

That was not the immediate intent, but it was intended to occur within the next 5 years. The fact that the website is such a cluster fuck was entirely coincidental.

Given the degree of complexity introduced by private for-profit insurance corporations, I'm not sure coincidental is the right word to explain Obama's latest cluster fuck; however, I am sure he's staking much of his legacy on how it all turns out.

"Yet one of the greatest advantages of a single-payer system — its relatively low administrative costs — has been thrown into sharp relief by problems registering with the new health exchanges. Andwhile Republicans despise the Affordable Care Act despite its conformity with many of their earlier proposals, their proposed changes (other than simple rollback) look complicated, kludgy and costly to administer."

Tea Party is for less government not more government.
Single payer would not be supported by them.

Arguably, it would be less government than the bureaucratic mess set up by ACA.
"Even if its rollout becomes more expeditious, the Affordable Care Act does little to reduce the incentives that companies have to barricade themselves behind high information and transaction costs.

"In the financial sector, I previously noted, this perverse incentive is described as 'strategic price complexity.'

"A complicated new program applied to a complicated old industry makes it hard for everyone to figure out exactly what they will be getting relative to what they are paying. As a result, many ordinary people and small businesses fall prey to redistributional paranoia."

Basically, that is how Canada achieved single payer. Vermont will lead the way.

Hopefully it will be done at the state level at least.

Medical care providers are regulated at the state level. One can only hope this will be as well.

If so, it will be at least as accidental as his peace initiative with Iran.

And why would that be?

Killing public option was the first and biggest mistake Democrats made in their effort to reform healthcare and make healthcare insurance more affordable.
We all know that the cost of healthcare insurance and the cost of healthcare in America is simply outrageous and it just keeps on getting worse. This hurts families, individuals and America's businesses. Public Option is the best route for America to go.
