Disney scraps plans for new Florida campus, mass employee relocation amid DeSantis feud

Disney will defeat DeSantis and dummies the tried and proven corporate way. They will buy and support candidates from local to state offices to defeat DeSantis and debozos.

Its still lovely, with beautiful cities. I got to visit Sonoma, Calistoga and went to see a play down at the Orpheum some months ago.

I'd buy property there in a heart beat if housing wasn't so damn expensive.
Yea good luck with that! What is it, a cool million an acre in Sonoma? I'd love an acre as well. Thats a pretty awesome region.

Sonoma is *wildly* expensive....because its such a fantastic place to live. Plaza park was awesome, I love the bike and hiking paths I found beside the Vallejo museum.

They have honor markets certain times of the year. I remember finding some of the best figs I've had in my life.

Its getting a little boujee. Not Healsburg boojee, but there are more wine tasting shops than the last I visited. It reminds me of spots on the edge of Texas Hill Country, like Wimberley.

When did you stop beating your wife?

Disclaimer: making a point about a fallacy, not family attack.
So all you have to do when you break a board rule is put a disclaimer on it? One that makes absolutely no sense? Looks pretty clear to me that you are accusing the poster of abusing his wife.

George Lucas made a hell of a fortune on Skywalker Ranch.

That's more Marin, about 30 miles away.

I used to do some work in the Lucas Film orbit years ago and got to visit Skywalker Ranch a couple of times. Its *way* down Lucas Valley Road, in a completely different county.

And *gorgeous*.

Lucas built a second campus nearby that is a lovely fusion of Art Nouveau and Japanese Shinto. Its singularly unique. And having pasta in a campus cafe 15' from an original Klimt was kinda fucking awesome.

The cost of a 2 day stay is $1200 per person, not $4800. Minimum stay is 2 days, so $600 per day.

(But that is still pretty expensive considering other hotels are going to cost $100-$200 per night ($200-$400) for two nights. But that doesn't include other things like meals, attractions, etc.)

WW

Throw in 2 or 3 kids and now you are at 2400 to 3000 per day.

KEY POINTS
  • Disney will no longer be moving forward with the construction of its Lake Nona, Florida, employee campus.
  • The company will also no longer be requiring California-based employees to relocate.
  • The announcement comes amid a bitter feud between the company and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis centered in part around the company's special district and development plans.

Disney has abandoned plans to open up a new employee campus in Lake Nona, Florida, amid rising tensions with the state's governor.
Citing "changing business conditions" and the return of CEO Bob Iger, Josh D'Amaro, chairman of Disney's parks, experiences and products division, penned a memo to employees Thursday, announcing that the company will not move forward with construction of the campus and will no longer be asking more than 2,000 California-based employees to relocate to Florida.

And now the truth.....

But if you read the details, the reality is that Disney cancelled one small part of its Florida plans for less than $1 billion, and kept almost all its other plans. And even that $1 billion was not such a sweet deal for Florida, since it was subsidized by over $500 million in tax incentives, and there were doubts that the job growth, which was by transferring employees from southern California, even could happen.

Most of the affected employees complained bitterly about having to move — some quit — but Disney held firm, partly because of a Florida tax credit that would have allowed the company to recoup as much as $570 million over 20 years for building and occupying the complex.

He cited “changing business conditions” as a reason for canceling the Lake Nona project. “I remain optimistic about the direction of our Walt Disney World business,” Mr. D’Amaro said in the memo.

He noted that $17 billion was still earmarked for construction at Disney World over the next decade — growth that would create an estimated 13,000 jobs. “I hope we’re able to,” he said.

Napa and Sonoma, yeah. They're a lot alike. Marin has a very different vibe. Its probably the proximity to the coast. Sonoma and Napa are mostly inland.

Though if you ever get to ride a motorcycle out in West Sonoma through Monte Rio and Jenner up Highway 1......do it! Its a bucket list experience.

America is an amazing place.
