My last sea tour, I was on an MSC vessel, which is ran by civilians, but it has a small Navy contingent on it to communicate with Navy vessels. Now, I'm basically a lazy person, and because I only like to do things once, I make sure it's completed in a correct manner. And, because I also had a pretty good organization system and computer programs for the personnel office, my pay error rate for the command was at 2.5 percent. Anything under 5 percent is considered outstanding by BUPERS, and I was at half that. We pulled back into homeport after a cruise, and one day, I was called to the quarterdeck because I had a visitor. Turns out it was another admin type from another MSC ship who had been told to check in with me and get a copy of all my programs and systems for them to use on their personnel. MSC had seen my record, and decided that they needed to have all the other admin types check in with me to get copies of my stuff because my error rate was damn near zero. If I was in Norfolk, and an MSC Personnelman checked in to them, they were required to see me.

Never had to say a word. Good work will always get noticed.
