Some of the doctors are accused of trading drugs for sex, giving prescriptions to Facebook friends without proper medical exams and unnecessarily pulling teeth to justify writing pain pill prescription. At least one of the patients, a pregnant woman from Tennessee, died.

The list of indicted medical professionals includes podiatrists, orthopedic specialists, dentists, general practitioners and nurse practitioners.

Nothing says "I'm a professional" like being a medical professional for profit...

Read about this.

Of course everyone is shocked but why?

This shows the failure of making drugs illegal more than a failure of some doctors.

As opposed to going to school for 12 years and spending $100,000.00 on an education for a $25,000/year job?

Legalizing these drugs will do harm to the addicts.Long ago, before prohibition. The field workers were able to buy a month supply of cocaine for a tenth of their pay check. And so drug addicts were still able to pay their bills and feed their families. But since the government has brought the prices up on these drugs. That the addicts will spend their whole entire check on it, and young children will have to prostitute themselves so that they can have food to eat and clothes. But cocaine is still at the same price in South America. If the government legalizes it. That they are surely not going to bring the prices down.

Some Colombian drug growers are using genetically modified coca "trees" to boost cocaine production dramatically, government officials say.

Anti-drug operatives say they found new strains with yields eight times higher than normal coca plants.

Higher yields could help explain why cocaine prices have stayed low despite US and Colombian air attacks on farms.

Colombian scientists and US officials expressed doubts, claiming extra growth could be achieved using fertiliser.

The coca "trees" can stand over 2m tall (6ft 6in) and produce four times as much of the alkaloid active in cocaine, according to a dossier seen by Britain's Financial Times newspaper.
