Military experts say that an electronic space war has been underway for at least a decade, and the flurry of research by China and Russia indicates it could one day escalate into the development of lethal weapons such as electromagnetic pulses or ground-based anti-satellite missile systems.

However, Michael Schmitt, a space war expert at the University of Exeter and a key figure in the Woomera initiative, said a conflict was more likely to start in the subdued surrounds of a military computer laboratory.

The United States, in order to obtain a Soviet acquiescence to the treaty, agreed to sign a significantly watered-down document that had many ephemeral “do good” provisions, words and phrases that would become irrelevant in large part as the U.S. and Soviet space programs evolved — technologically and politically.

The Outer Space Treaty at present is inherently toothless in terms of legal compliance, and does not offer substantive answers to pressing legal issues and questions, such as those now presented by plans for asteroid mining and potential retrieval of an asteroid for study in a close fly-by or relatively near-Earth orbit. Although certain signatory nations of the Outer Space Treaty purport compliance with the spirit and intent of that treaty, they tend unilaterally to make parochial and self-serving exceptions — not infrequently without required notification.

Well, in breaking news yesterday, intelligence agents who had been analyzing satellite data over N. Korea said that N. Korea has actually INCREASED production of nuclear material. Un punked Trump apparently. All we got was a handshake and a promise they would think about it. What we gave up? Whole bunches of propaganda for Un to use on his people, as well as was given stature as a nuclear world leader.

Trump announced after his June 12 summit with Kim in Singapore that North Korea was committed to “complete denuclearization.”


He also said the US would suspend joint military drills with South Korea along the peninsula.


But the intelligence analysts told NBC that North Korea has been increasing production of enriched uranium.


“There’s no evidence that they are decreasing stockpiles, or that they have stopped their production,” an official told NBC.


“There is absolutely unequivocal evidence that they are trying to deceive the US.”


The White House did not comment on the report.

It does bring up a good question though….

Do we really need 5 branches of the military? There seems to be a lot of redundancy. Each branch has an air component with different capabilities. We have army airfields, airfare bases, Naval air stations….Seems to me that the same runways a C17 takes off from can be used for an F18 or Osprey…. Different uniforms, different ranks, different insignia, etc… Sure seems like we could shave a few hundred billion off the budget (over time) if we just bought one color of cloth for uniforms if nothing else.

It's just like all of these people who think we can use lasers to "blow up" satellites. Since lasers produce heat, and in the vastness of space it is hard to keep the laser on the target long enough to even do any damage.

Sometimes those laws of physics are so inconvenient.
