Opening before the CDC guidelines had been met cost tens of thousands more.

There were other predictions just for the U.S. of up to about 2 million but those were if we did nothing and tried to defeat the virus with herd immunity. The range of deaths if we did everything perfectly was between 100K and 200K. We've already exceeded that but we're still counting.
