Elizabeth Warren: 'End Electoral College'

Well there seems to be the drumbeat of that again...

Getting rid of electoral college means rural America might as well not even vote, They would lose every single election.

States like California or Florida Texas and New York would dominate everything in this country…

There is a reason why they call this a republic not a shit eating democracy...

Uh-huh....You'd be singing a different tune if Hillary had won.

Well, he was wrong...

A pure popular vote = mob rule

Vladimir Putin would agree with you.

Goddamn, you people know how to step in your own shit.
.
Your sheer stupidity is ushering in an authoritarian government, Donald Trump loves you.
.
.
.
Like your democrat ass is against authoritarianism LOL

theirs a reason millions have fled blue states that are pretty much dragged left by large metropolitan areas
take away nyc la and san fran

Hillary lost the "popular" vote

we already have the popular vote anyway
most states throw all their electoral college votes to the winner of that states popular vote

The left does not respect any vote that doesn't go their way ...they can lie all they want ....anytime a leftard says hes for the popular national vote cause democracy
is either lying or stupid

look at California 1994 attempt to curb taxpayer services like food ,medical, and schools for illegals
look at France voting NON the first time
look at Brexit

majority rule votes do not matter to the left.
only when it suits their agenda do they pull out the BUT MOB Rule DEMOCRACY IS TRUE DEMOCRACY

TODAY the lil totalitarian retards don't believe in any form of democracy
they really don't

Wow. How many lies can you fit in one post !?

I always thought america was a democracy
That's the result of a public education.

Kinda scary that so many don't understand our own system yet they vote!

STATES elect the president. The individuals of each STATE determine who the STATE votes for.

It's all part of our checks and balances.

You people, with your simplistic understanding of our system is dangerous to the republic.

That has ZERO to do with "checks and balances" which makes your allusion to 'public education' supremely ironic.

It has to do with filtering out demagogues who might whip up a regional cult, filtering out ill-advised popular choices by what we could call Electoral Veto, and it has to do with "Slave Power", the attribution of greater proportional power to slave-holding states --- which no longer exists. THAT is what the EC is for.

"Checks and balances" comprise all that good stuff like how Congress is responsible for legislation and budget, regardless what the POTUS wants. Not even related here.

You make it sound like going to the moon. Oh, wait....
The Constitution has already been amended 27 times. Well, 17 if you take out the Bill of Rights. It is certainly not impossible.

Yes, impossible. Thirty-eight states would have to ratify the amendment effectively rendering their states mute regarding who is runs the country. Do you really think that's possible?
My understanding was that it was the Democratic and Republican parties that choose the electors, not the states.

That doesn't ratify an amendment to our constitution.

Those states already dominate electoral college votes. Nothing wrong with having a national discussion about this, times change. It appears to have an obvious advantage for the Left and disadvantage for the right so it is going to be a political battle for sure. But who knows how it would play out. Could have the opposite effect and bring out more Republican votes in Cali and New York.

It is a cleaner way of running an election though, every vote has equal weight no matter where you are from, something appealing about that.

It is impossible to "render states mute" or even "moot". The idea would be that voters, not the EC, would make the decision. And those voters live in ---------- wait for it ------------------------ states.

We’ve outgrown the EC.

Look at what we have now . A handful of swing states get all the attention while 80% of the country is basically ignored .

I have a feeling if the shoe were on the other foot, Republicans would be looking at this differently.

I have a feeling you only think that because YOUR principles are selfish and subjective, and you assume everyone is like you. Don't project.
Okay, maybe I'm wrong.

More than maybe. It's not like Democrats haven't won in recent history, and I have yet to see concerted efforts among Republicans to invalidate and delegitimize those elections. Disagree with and oppose policies, sure. Delegitimize, no.
Really? Poliquin just did in Maine.

Oh, WELL, if you can pull an obscure regional election out of your ass, that CERTAINLY compares to repeated attempts to invalidate Presidential elections. Because a brand-new state election law is TOTALLY comparable to an integral part of the US Constitution.

Do you actually wonder why people hold you in contempt, or are you at least honest with yourself about that?
I came to this thread to learn something, not listen to you carp on like a fifteen year old with the rag on. Grow up.

One of those states you seem to feel is so important to the Presidential vote regardless of its population is suddenly "obscure" and not worthy of any consideration? A Republican, Poliquin not only demanded a recount, he has contested ranked choice voting (by which he lost) to our Supreme Court, even though it was passed by a majority of Maine voters.

Just pointing out that Republicans do indeed whine when they lose, at times.

Basically half the country has nothing in common with the other half of the country, their needs and interests are completely opposite. That is why we need a republic not a shit eating democracy...

Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Monday that she fully supports abolishing the Electoral College and moving toward a national vote, the first time the 2020 presidential candidate has publicly taken the stance.
“My view is that every vote matters,” the Massachusetts Democrat said to roaring applause at her CNN presidential town hall at Jackson State University in Mississippi. “And the way we can make that happen is that we can have national voting, and that means get rid of the Electoral College.”
Amen! I couldn't agree more! Elections should be about people - not acreage! BTW, the rest of the link is worth reading.

SWELL! GO FOR IT! We need more and more radicalism coming out of the democratic party! Or have they already so dumbed down America that enough of us already don't understand that EVERY VOTE ALREADY DOES COUNT~~ ~~ ~~ that is how every state is decided. Then the states are added up by weight proportional to their population. Let Pocahontas Liz go right on ahead championing the idea that what the DNC wants is:

MOB RULE,

where most of the states will no longer have any say in their government and every election will be decided by a handful of democratically-controlled states like California and New York!

With a HUNDRED important issues out there on the palette of America for a better life, I do hope you dumb fucking bastards pick rewriting the Constitution in your favor so you can win every election as your NUMBER ONE ISSUE to campaign on! :auiqs.jpg: :spinner: :spinner: :auiqs.jpg: LaJerkoff!

We all know why they started the EC, pony express was slow and only the elites read and voted.

I honestly don't see why eliminating the electoral college would preclude Republicans from winning. Is that what you're saying?

Ancient Athens was the birthplace of Democracy and Athens fell. More than a few fake ballots have been found in Ancient Athens.

How so ? We can eliminate winner take all state electoral college vote stealing .

Sure, like California?

and the number of votes cast in 8 states was still smaller than Los Angeles County, in the last national election.

Imagine how many states it would take to cancel out California entirely.

Irrelevant. Votes are not for "cancelling out".

You wanna talk "cancel out", address all the Rump votes in California (New York, Massachusetts, etc) that were cancelled out by the WTA-EC. Along with who-knows-how-many-more who didn't bother to leave the house because what would be the point.

Get it?
