EU to Trump - 'We can also do stupid'

Shitforhair has got your back ..

in at least two of Trump’s last three construction projects, Trump opted to purchase his steel and aluminum from Chinese manufacturers rather than United States corporations based in states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin.

with both hands on your shoulders.

was it good business for him to do so at the time? and if so, why? that much cheaper? in the end he's making it a fair playing field so the cost would be about the same. yet it's a horrible thing he's doing cause look - he bought here!

great, and who setup THAT trade system?

this guy ..

The impetus for NAFTA began with President Ronald Reagan, who proposed a North American common market in his campaign.

In 1984, Congress passed the Trade and Tariff Act. That gave the president "fast-track" authority to negotiate free trade agreements. It removes Congressional authority to change negotiating points. Instead, it allows Congress only the ability to approve or disapprove the entire agreement. That makes negotiation much easier for the administration. Trade partners don't have to worry that Congress will nitpick specific elements.

Juncker responds to Trump's trade tariffs: 'We can also do stupid'

European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker has vowed to fight back against US President Donald Trump's threat of a 25% tariff on steel and 10% on aluminium imports.

"So now we will also impose import tariffs. This is basically a stupid process, the fact that we have to do this. But we have to do it. We will now impose tariffs on motorcycles, Harley Davidson, on blue jeans, Levis, on Bourbon. We can also do stupid. We also have to be this stupid," he said in Hamburg on Friday evening.

And so it begins. The cheers of the US steel makers will soon be drowned out by the yelps of the bourbon distilleries and in the end nobody wins.
blue jeans?

they're gonna do more than this?

Price of 1 pair of jeans (Levis 501 or similar) in London :: Expatistan

Well at least they can still afford Tampons...

Price of 1 box of 32 tampons (Tampax, OB, ...) in London - USD :: Expatistan

and the left has been bitching at reagan for how long on this? now that trump is changing it, they're still bitching.

so if i get you correctly:

we bitch at trump because he took advantage of a policy he didn't setup.
we call trump stupid because, well we don't need a reason we just do.
now that he's changing it we're pissed at what it will affect in places like the EU

which in the end means trumps takes advantage of laws when it benefits him, like we all do, and when he wants to change a policy the left didn't like they still don't like it.

and we wonder why we argue so much.

get this - tariffs increase distribution costs and those costs are passed down to buyers ... higher prices decrease demand, decreased demand stops job growth.

now go pat Trump on his fat ass and thank him.

Hmmm......the EU should probably shut up....and the OP may want to realize what happened in his own neck of the woods

EU imposes import duties of up to 73.7% on cheap Chinese steel

The European Union has slapped tariffs of up to 73.7% on Chinese steel after manufacturers were forced to cut jobs due falling prices and demand for the material amid an influx of cheap imports from Asia.

Thousand of job have already been lost in the steel industry in Britain in the last year with thousands more at risk as the sector remains under pressure. Industry leaders have partly blamed the squeeze on the sector on China’s dumping of cheap steel in Europe as it struggles to find buyers for its products domestically.

That type of thing is why the EU will never catch up to the U.S. Well, unless Trump continues to go all in on massive tariffs and subsidies.

The one good thing about the GOP was their stances on free trade and capitalism. It’s shocking how quickly and easily they abandoned them.

Funny how you Socialist would applaud such a move, but since Trump proposed it you are against. All Trump needs to do to make the Dimocrats antiIllegal Immigration is he needs to support open borders and amnesty. Then the Dems would be demanding a wall and to deport all illegals!

Liberals are such mental midgets

The one BAD thing about the GOP has always been their mantra of “free trade” which was code word for selling out our industries and jobs to cheap Chinese labor.
OKay, lib

Too dumb and completely wrong.

so you won't answer the question or refute the logic we've gone full circle in stupid, you just dog on trump and slap out some insults.

got it.

We will see at 3:30 when Trump answers questions. As I said with immigration if he folded without getting all that he wanted, if he folds on these tariffs to already excessively wealthy trading nations and abusers of America, 2020 is going to be a STEEP climb. I will have to say that the odds of him repeating will be very slim, especially if they roll out Biden.

I thought tariffs didn’t work? If it’s “stupid” then why does he want to do exactly the same thing? The answer is the EU already imposes tariffs on US goods in order to protect their own industries. Now they are freaking out and can do nothing but threaten the US.

Now, crawl back into your grub hole.
They are retaliating you dumb fuck.

How noble of the EU.

Hey, if the Chinese can do it cheaper, that frees us up to INNOVATE, something Americans used to be pretty good at. Maybe we could spend more of our new found "free time" finding a better way of doing it, instead of blaming the "chinese boogey man", or here's a crazy idea, create a product/service of a QUALITY the chinese cannot match.

Whatever you do, stop being so easily duped, and take some damn responsibility for yourself. Find a way or MAKE one.

THAT USED TO BE THE AMERICAN WAY

The Chinese do it “cheaper” because they use what amounts to slave labor.
All outsourcing just destroys middle class jobs in America, which is one of the primary goals of globalist pigs.

You may want to inform Fortune Magazine....

"The U.S. has lost 5 million factory jobs since 2000. And trade has indeed claimed production jobs – in particular when China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001. Nevertheless, there was no downturn in U.S. manufacturing output. As a matter of fact, U.S. production has been growing over the last decades. From 2006 to 2013, “manufacturing grew by 17.6%, or at roughly 2.2% per year,” according to a report from Ball State University. The study reports as well that trade accounted for 13% of the lost U.S. factory jobs, but 88% of the jobs were taken by robots and other factors at home."
Don’t Blame China For Taking U.S. Jobs

Or maybe you should educate yourself before you shout about how you know things. Just a thought.

As for the labor situation in China, I agree, what can we do though? The only thing I know of is stop buying their stuff. But then again, that would cripple the U.S. retail market. So, yeah, simple answers to complex problems are GREAT!!!

This is so laughable. Do you have any idea how many thousands of types/brands of American goods are not even allowed to be sold in the EU because of the EU's staunch protectionism? Do you know what the EU's tariffs are on the comparatively few American goods that can be sold in the EU?

Conservatives, stop buying this globalist/free trader propaganda. If protecting industries and jobs is okay for China, South Korea, and the EU, why is not okay for us?

Yep. Five months ago I would be arguing on the Globalization side, but I've come a long way. I credit the Americans for bringing me here, as you guys have been fleeced. I knew Canada was doing some fleecing, but not nearly as much as they really do.

That should give you a big clue as to why despite the EU having 200 million more people than the U.S., the U.S. has a higher GDP.
