Therefore, the government is required to keep immigrant children and their parents together only for a limited time.

One passed in 1911 (US Code 8 Section 1325), and the 1997 law from Flores vs Reno, banning kids from being jailed with parents in adult jails.

So his job is enforce the laws, not make them, or revise them. So he has to arrest illegals who cross the border without inspection (the 1911 law), and when jailing them, he can't put their kids with the parents(the 1997 law).

So he's putting them in very fine, comfortable facilities, that American kids of jailed parents would love to go to.

This problem COULD be handled in a matter of days, though, if the PROPER legislative authority - Congress - would take a little time off from grandstanding for the cameras and demagoguing to simply pass a law overruling the Flores Settlement and the Ninth Circuit ruling on this subject, and providing appropriate funding to allow for family detention (although one of the many dirty little secrets the media doesn't tell you is that the vast majority of these cases are settled in about a day, because the illegal immigrant in question pleads guilty, gets the kid back, and they get deported together).

In an interview with Channel 4 News, to be broadcast tonight, the teenager tells of a cross-border trade in babies and young children, where Mexican and US gangs worked together to supply a demand in the United States.

As a result of the interview, US officials and Mexican authorities have begun an investigation into the alleged trafficking.

Maria says she was 16 when she was lured into the gang by a man on the streets of the Mexican border town of Ciudad Juárez.

Since the 1990s, thousands of women have disappeared from the town. Hundreds of bodies bearing signs of rape and sexual mutilation have been dumped on waste ground in the city; thousands more have never returned.

In 2009, 55 teenage girls vanished in the town, which has been gripped by violence as two drug cartels fight a lethal turf war over cocaine smuggling routes into the US.

Bullshit. There’s no law that stipulates separating families. This is being done on policy. And the president has every authority to sign a memorandum or executive order dictating the rules of how laws are carried out.
