What gets me is the gop has a real plan in the form of a Debt Ceiling Bill that passed the House. You may not like it but it's a plan.

What's the dem's plan to rein in spending?

Crickets and nonsensical grandstanding from the dems thus far.

What, do they really think McCarthy is going to go back to the House after next week's meeting with a list of demands from the likes of Schumer and change a passed Bill?

No, the only movement possible is to bring the Bill to the Senate floor for a vote but Schumer knows he doesn't have the votes to block it.

Even if he does he does block it he does not want it going into reconciliation because, like petulant children, the dems want everything their way.

You can't go buy extravagant Christmas gifts, and after they are given to people and they are opened, then decide if you can afford them. At that point it's too late. Not the same at all. Credit card company limits prevent you from spending beyond a certain amount. You are still responsible for what you buy.
The debt ceiling prevents you from paying for what you already bought. You bought it. You brought it home and used it, but the debt ceiling prevents you from paying the credit card bill when it comes due.

The debt ceiling is how much we are allowed to pay, no matter how much is due. It has nothing to do with how much we spend. If you had a debt limit on your credit card, and you had more expenses than normal (new tires, prom dress for Suzy, etc.) a debt limit would prevent you from buying those tires, and Suzy couldn't get that dress. With a debt ceiling, you can go ahead and get those tires, and Suzy can have the dress, but when the bill comes due, you can only pay up to the ceiling. You still owe it. It's still due NOW. You can't pay your bills. Do you know what happens when a country doesn't pay it's bills?

Then bring the Bill to the Senate floor and vote on it.....Pretty simple stuff.

The dems want the same-old, the public, through their majority representatives in the House, not so much.

yes and we have reached the limit, thus need to raise the limit. Much like maxing out your credit card.

Great time to review and see why you are spending so much, so quickly, and make some changes. It would be a dereliction of duty not to take the time to do that evaluation.

The reason for this debt is the wasteful spending of the past. That's why it's important for Republicans to hold their ground and demand less spending so we don't have to keep raising that ceiling in the future. What Democrats want is to keep raising the ceiling and keep spending irresponsibly giving us an endless problem. If we keep on this path, might as well double that ceiling instead of going through this every couple of years.

At least this administration is not adding at anywhere near the rate of the last administration, and the debt ceiling was raised without problem though the trump administration was adding to it at a huge rate. This is just political bluster and everybody knows it. The only time Reps care is when a dem is in office. But, the reps will raise and will not kill the economy, as they face election in 2024, so if they break it, they bought it, and will be voted out, possibly across the board.

Well good luck with it. I'm against it, but being debt free and stable retired, I won't participate in the suffering much, if McCarthy Fucks it up, and the country goes through another round of plant closings, people losing homes, etc, like after the Bush Crash. Remember, nobody, but nobody wanted McCarthy and the nut-balls held him for ransom to even get the job, not because he was seen as the smartest guy in the room, but basically if push comes to shove he is speaker in name only, as not really leading or owed allegiance. It is amazing how soon people forget.

McCarthy is not renown for his conservatism. The conservatives negotiated that for their Speaker vote, he lead more conservatively. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Your point about personally being debt free and how this won't affect you is dead on. It doesn't affect most of us and that's the problem. We increase our debt another trillion, so what? How did my life change?

So this solution to our problem is simple: bring on the pain. When they waste money like they do, every American should feel it. If we did it that way, you'd see how fast people take control over this wasteful spending and finally bring it to an end.
