After the 3 year quagmire of Korea costing as many lives as Vietnam, Truman couldn't even get enough support from his own party to run for a full second term.

You almost gotta admire the media's tightrope walk when they managed to defend both MacArthur's negligence and mismanagement in Korea and Truman's legacy at the same time.
