Finally, "The Little Mermaid", who is now black... Is in theaters!

Mermaids belong to the race and culture that created them.

One of the earliest mermaid legends appeared in Syria around 1000 BC when the goddess Atargatis dove into a lake to take the form of a fish.

As the gods there would not allow her to give up her great beauty, only her bottom half became a fish, and she kept her top half in human form. Archaeologists have found Atargatis' figure on ancient temples, statues and coins.

he never claims the color of her skin in the novel.
It was written in 1837. It is doubtful that Hans Christian Anderson had a nationality in mind, other than Danish. There was no multiculturalism so, yeah, she was half fish and half Danish white girl.

If the statutes aren’t the right color some fucking idiots will lose their shit.

Perhaps he did not think about such things as skin color, not everyone in the world is fixated on it like you

If you are telling the story of Asgartis, it would be a Syrian mermaid. Since its the Little Mermaid, it's a white mermaid. See how it works?

Danish people aren’t mermaids…they aren’t half fish

Does the statue of the Little Mermaid have liver lips and a wide flat nose?

Nose is close, lips are about the same but the real life one has better tits.

Business is business, or it should be. Anytime you inject politics into the business model you are risking less revenue and less profit. Some people are okay with that, but there could be adverse consequences to employees, suppliers, and investors. We all saw what happened to Anheiser-Busch, right? Maybe Disney won't take it in the shorts like AB did, we'll see next week how the opening numbers look. But there does appear to be a trend of sorts where some companies are reaching out to certain demographics that very well could hurt their customer base.

I'm really looking forward to the Hollywood remake of Roots, where they cast Dylan Mulvaney in the lead role.

Looks like I was right. Some fucking idiots are losing their shit over the supposed race of a statue. How fucking brainless can some people be?

Nah.

They'll dislike it because The Little Mermaid didn't need to be retold, and certainly not for the benefit of wokeism. Remakes like this that turn cartoon movies into movies with real actors are always terrible as well. This movie is going to be a hot pile of trash.

This will be like when feminists blamed bad ratings for that Ghostbusters remake on sexism, when in reality the movie just sucked like hell.
Ok Boomer. I will wait to see what the actual little girl target audience does.

A Danish storyteller in 1837 really didn't envision a black girl as his mermaid. Not a single one of his many stories was ever said to depict a black person. Black people were not very numerous in 1837 Denmark. You are looking at cultural tales through a 21st lens. Of course all these stories are about black people. This is multiculturalism. But it wasn't. These old stories are worth preserving unadulterated.
