Finnish icebreakers were also built for landlocked countries such as Kazakhstan. Shallow draft ice breaking supply vessels Arcticaborg and Antarcticaborg operated for more than a decade in the Caspian Sea to support the Kashagan project. Additionally, five icebreakers of the Mangystau class were constructed in Romania but designed in Finland by Aker Arctic

Canada and USA badly need many more of those !

The partnership was agreed on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington, where 32 allies said in their joint statement that Moscow 🇷🇺 🐷 🇸🇦 empire “remains the most significant and direct threat to allies’ security.”

“As the first initiative under ICE Pact (the Icebreaker Collaboration Effort), we will commit to a collaborative effort to continue building best-in-class Arctic and polar icebreakers and other Arctic and polar capabilities in each of our respective countries by sharing expertise, information, and capabilities…, - the official statement says, - This partnership will strengthen the shipbuilding industries in each nation with the goal of creating good-paying jobs in shipyards, marine equipment manufacturers, and many other related services across all three countries”.

For a Quebec shipbuilder, the road to Canadian icebreakers goes through Helsinki
