First Abolishing the Electoral College

I'd prefer the 17th Amendment be repealed and allow the state governments to appoint Senators again instead of having them elected by the populous.

Like birthright citizenship, and the EC, a plan like that would still need a new amendment.

I'm curious. Why would you want that? Replacing an elected official and appointing one would seem to me to invite corruption. If I'm not mistaken Blagojevich is still sitting in jail for this kind of stunt.

The Senate wasn't created to represent the people. That's what the House of Representatives is for. The Senate was meant to represent the interests of the individual state governments to prevent an ovebearing federal government.

And most of the population were illiterate rural farmers.

True or not, so what?

Fair enough, but if you take the representation away from the voters it just invites corruption. It can't be an appointment, it would have to be a representative republic style election in state legislatures.

but how the left wants to abolish the senate. Holy shit, why do they want Cuba so much.....wtf is with these people?

It is all about fairness. Fairness to them is taking from those successful enough to be in the top 25%, while they wallow in the filth of the bottom 50%. So instead of them brushing off the failures of liberalism and its victimhood, they want to punish the rest of US with high taxes so then we are just as poor as they are. Misery and Poverty, that is what liberalism always brings, and even then they aren't fucking happy.

Was the Senate any more or less corrupt than it is now prior to 1913? Because that's the year we started electing Senators by popular vote.

Was it all because of Castro? I think the sanctions that the US placed on Cuba after the missile crisis did more to push them into poverty.

Socialism doesn't have a great track record on this. Plus the soviets supported them!!!!!!!!!

The Senate was less corrupt because when the people voted in a new Governor, he would replace the Senators that were put there by the last governor. When the Senate voted in that the people vote for them, then that was the end of term limited Senators....

Here's a list of all the federal political scandals, broken down by administration. Some of them are kind of interesting, like the politician that castrated 2 guys because he thought they were sleeping with his wife. That happened during the Jackson administration.

Who knows. I just think the farther you get away from electing your representation you open the door for corruption. Too much pay to play in politics as it is. Just as bad as pure democracy where mob rule can destroy the lives of those under-represented.

The Senate has more power than the House. They didn't want the masses directly electing it's members.

Really? When Castro chased all the wealthy people out of the Las Vegas of the Caribbean, the only people left were the poor fucks who had to stick it out. Dumbass liberals have no clue, and never will..

Cuba Poverty and wealth, Information about Poverty and wealth in Cuba
He confiscated the large landholdings and companies of the very wealthy, causing much of the upper class to flee the country. In nationalizing most of the businesses in Cuba he placed the state in control of the economy, thus allowing it to control wages for all positions.

Of course an educated voter will not allow corruption in the house, senate or presidency. But when Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barrack Hussain Obama, were elected, that just proved the lack of education of the left, and how getting free stuff got them elected...
